David Arnold's Lesson
Throughout the book Arnold learns about trust, perseverance, and forgiveness. Which makes him a more confident person. One lesson Arnold learns is to be persistent. He learns that sometimes he has to take risks to accomplish his dream. For example, after getting suspended for throwing the book at Mr.P, Mr.P talked to Arnold and told him to leave the rez.. The teacher told Arnold that if he didn’t leave he was going to end up like the others. To have hope people have to surround themselves by those who also share the same dreams. He then realized that he has to leave since people in the rez are hopeless. So he decides to ask his parents who has the most hope, “White people” his parents answered. He then says ”I want to transfer schools...I want to go to Reardan”(45). After he leaves the rez, his tribe sees him as a traitor. He loses his best friend, Rowdy and gets beaten up by him (53). Even though it is not easy for him he decides to play basketball against Wellpinit High school, the school he used to attend before Reardan. While he plays he gets, three stitches and a minor concussions but doesn’t give up (145). Another lesson Arnold learns is to trust. Arnold learns this lesson when Roger invites him and Penelope to join them to get pancakes. Unfortunately, Arnold only has 5 dollars in his pocket. He then makes up an excuse to …show more content…
He learns to overcome his pride and forgive others. Arnold learns this lesson during summer time on page 228 where it says; “For a second, I thought about saying no. I thought about telling him to bite my ass. I thought about making him apologize. But I couldn’t. He was never going to change.” This quote demonstrates that Arnold was hesitant to forgive Rowdy but he didn’t let his pride win and decided to accept his invitation. This lesson changes Arnold, therefore he didn’t keep score when playing basketball because all what really mattered to him was their friendship and not pride

And as in most books, the main character develops throughout the book, learning from his or hers mistakes and whatever else they might have come across. "What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger" is a saying that many live by, or turn to in bad times. What it means is basically that it is impossible to know which roads to take in life. You might experience a rough time once in a while, but life is about learning, and this is what you learn from. Secondly you will learn that if you choose one that is a blind alley you should probably consider an alternative the next time you have to a similar decision.…

Arnold’s behavior in my opinion are that of an evocative interaction between the genotype and the environment. Arnold has tested his environment and knows that if he reacts with good temperament his parents will give him exactly what he wants without reflecting on his worthiness of the response whether is emotional or physically. I also believe that if his parents aggressive behavior was passed down to Arnold which accounts for the way he behaves specifically with, and if his father actually disciplined him for his difficult temperament like the evocative interaction explains than he would be a better behaved child.…

When Arnold describes his hometown of Wellpinit, he often makes it sound like Hell on Earth. Arnold’s first descriptions of his home were, “the poor-ass Spokane Indian Reservation,” (p. 7), and “located approximately a million miles north of Important, and two billion miles west of Happy.”(p. 30). Arnold has a disability, and gets bullied by almost everyone on the reservation. His family is in poverty, and his father is a drunk. Arnold has a rough life, which can create a haze of fog making everything seem dull, and horrible.…

Terupt, the kids never give up on saving Mr. Terupt job as a teacher. To begin, when the kids realized the budget was low, they organized a fundraiser, this is a very important part of the story because it’s when it starts to show what lengths they will go to to save Mr. Terupt. In addition to that, they set up a bake sale to raise money for the school, so a teacher won’t have to be cut. Also later in the story, Luke one of the 8 kids states “I’m not letting him go down without a fight, and i'm sure the other agree!” This shows how determined the kids are to not give up on Mr. Terupt. In the story when it states, “ Luke knew if the budget didn’t pass they were going to lose Terupt.” When the rest of them realized that they know they had to do more, they needed to do more if they wanted to save Mr. Terupt. So they came up with the idea of making flyers that had a picture of Mr. Terupt on them and then saying VOTE YES. They were going to post them all over town and even knock on random peoples doors to hand them out. All of this shows how determined the kids are not to give up on Terupt and what they are willing to do for him. That shows their determination and will to never give…

His intimidating speech shatters all bravery and courage that Connie had left and she “frantically runs in her house, fumbles to lock the screen door, and curls up in an obscure corner of the house, cradling the phone.”Not worried at all, Arnold does says he will not go into the house unless she tries to phone for help. As the Devil cannot tread on hallowed ground, Arnold Friend apparently cannot tread in Connie’s home, so the house acts somewhat like a sanctuary for Connie. Arnold seems to realize that he must make her submit by her own free will. He knows, as the Devil knows, that a victim cannot be taken by simple brute force. As long as Connie has one ounce of resistance left in her, Arnold cannot be victorious. However, in the end Arnold’s power is too strong and he finally makes Connie…

While reading the first two chapters of Eric Jensen’s Teaching with the Brain in Mind I was shocked by the complexity of the brain. Albeit our brain is powerful and amazing, it is surprisingly fragile. The environment around our brain has a tremendous impact on our brain’s development especially during childhood when the brain is developing (Jenson, 2005, pg 21).…

What Ray Brown means by this quote is that answering a question by using overly complicated words and data that no one can understand, is not answering the question and/or problem. Sometimes people do this because they do not fully understand the question or the answer either. Whereas if you come to an answer to a question, or a problem, as a group, which everyone understands, then the question is one hundred percent answered because everyone can understand it, and is not drowned in over complexity and data.…
