He helps Ponyboy through his dealing with the murder. Darry is a responsible person, he is a mature, caring, hard worker, and a stern person. Darry is a very mature person. He is a very caring person, to his gang and his brothers. He worries about Ponyboy, like what he does, or what time he gets home at night. Again, in the book he says “where have you been?” (49) to Ponyboy. He says this because he’s worries something bad will happen to him, and Darry doesn’t want something bad to happen, like his parents dying. He’s afraid to lose Ponyboy and Sodapop. He’s being responsible by taking care of others. He is a very stern person. He doesn’t show his emotions that well. Like Ponyboy says in the book “He always has a straight face” (6). By being stern, he’s responsible, by not goofing off, when needed. He can be stern to help others not goof off, and when a situation comes, that needs to be taken care of, with no messing around. And when a situation is going on with the gang, he can take care of it. With him having all of those traits, being mature, stern, and caring. He can take care off his brothers, and his gang. He can take care of the situations that come his way, or families way. He can help with their fight against the Socs. He can fight back, and help others.

The real main character of The outsiders is still Ponyboy. After all it seems like he wrote the book because of one full circle quote. “ When I stepped out into the bright sunlight from the darkness of the movie house, I had only two things on my mind: Paul Newman and a ride home…” (Pg 1 and 180). In addition to having him write the book he is ultimately the main character because it is written from his point of view. For example, almost every line in the book has him thinking in it or describing something through his eyes. “I had walked down…” (Pg 31) or “...this church gave me a creepy feeling.” (Pg 67). All in all Ponyboy has changed as a character through the book and is indeed the main character.…

Darry and Soda had different points of view on how to interact with their brother Ponyboy. On page 2, the books states, “Soda’s never hollering at me all the time the way Darry is, or treating me as if I am six instead of fourteen.” From this quote, the reader is told that Darry treats Ponyboy differently than Soda. It can be inferred that Darry is more strict with Ponyboy while Soda may not be as strict. On the other hand, “Soda’s always happy-go-lucky and grinning, while Darry’s hard and firm and rarely grins at all.” (The Outsiders, pg. 2) This quote shows another example of how Soda is different from Darry because it shows Soda being more joyful and relaxed, but Darry is more stern and not warm. Furthermore, the way both brothers treat Ponyboy demonstrates Hinton’s theme that family is there to support each other at all times because both brothers clearly care about Pony but show it in different…

That don’t bother me none’” (88). Dally’s dad does not care about him. His dad neglects him and does not pay any attention to him. This…
