A major problem in the field of health and nutrition is a law passed in congress called the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994, or DSHEA. This law essentially requires the Food and Drug Administration to assume that dietary supplements are safe until proved otherwise. Making supplements used to be like making prescription drugs, you had to prove your product was safe and effective before you could sell them. Since DSHEA was passed, the supplement industry has become a multi-billion dollar business with manufacturers free to make all sorts of grandiose claims for their products and even include ingredients that are harmful to the consumer’s health.
One supplement that has gained popularity is deer

It is sold online and with a statement on the back of the bottle indicating that the product has not been evaluated by the food and drug administration and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. I believe that the claims made by DVX Pro Liquid are too good to be true, and it is truly not that effective. I believe that products similar to this have just taken advantage of a sudden increase in popularity and demand for deer antler spray and are covered by the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 to sell their product without backing up their claim. In order to prove my hypothesis, DVX Pro Liquid would need to be …show more content…
All the participants will be given the same workout schedule and workout routine. Of the 100 participants, an experimental group of 50 would be administered the serving size indicated on the back of the label of 30 drops every morning and night. The Independent variable is the 30 drops every morning and evening. The remaining 50 in the control group will participate in the same workouts, but will be given a placebo in place of the actual DVX Pro Liquid Supplement. Neither the participant nor the experimenters will now which is the actual supplement and the placebo in order to eliminate experimenter’s expectancy or bias. The dependent variable in the experiment is the amount of muscle growth, endurance, and strength the participants have at the conclusion of the experiment. Third-variable problems may include physical acumen prior to the study, genetics and gender. Random sampling may combat this issue. At the end, their size will be compared to the participant’s size at the beginning of the experiment and participants will be tested on aerobic as well as anaerobic ability. The results will be compared to see if there is a correlation between deer antler spray and the claims they make in their

In this experiment, the independent variables are the different types of beverages that will be used. The dependant variables (the variables influenced by the different beverages) is the running time (the time that the person will run in one lap), the amount of pushups done in one minute, how many sit-ups is completed by two minutes, and the number of jumping jacks that are done in thirty seconds. I believe that Gatorade will help your athletic performance the most, therefore the other drinks such as water, Arizona Tea, milk, Mott’s Apple Juice, and Coca-Cola is the control group. The controlled variables in the experiment (items that will stay the same) is…

The problem for this experiment is how does the amount of caffeine affect the speed and performance of a mouse. The hypothesis is if the amount of caffeine consumed by the mouse is increased, then the time at which the mouse completes a set obstacle course will decrease when time is a function of caffeine quantity. The amount of caffeine consumed by the mouse before completing the obstacle course is the independent variable. The dependent variable of the experiment is the amount of time the mouse takes to complete the course. The obstacle course, the substance from which the caffeine is obtained from, the amount of time the mouse is given to digest the caffeine, and all other environmental conditions are controls. The overall experimental control,…

The materials I used in this experiment were 8 people (subjects) and 8 clothespins of the same type. First I recognized my dependent variable, how many times you can squeeze clothespin, and my independent, exercise. I took a group of 8 classmates, excluding myself and instead including my younger brother. I decided to let the control group also serve as the experimental group. The steps I took were to let the control group rest before starting, and then they squeezed the clothespin for one minute and counted how many times they could squeeze it. After that they rested for another minute, then exercised by jogging in place for one minute and after they immediately squeezed the clothespin.…

Drinks labeled as dietary supplements have to report any case of incident pertaining to their product but drinks listed as “conventional food” do not. Also in the way dietary supplements have to list the quantity of ingredients in their beverage but “conventional food” don’t have to warn their consumers about their intake of caffeine or taurine. Large companies like Red Bull and monster have been hiding under these clauses for over five years while they have consumers die because of their products. Also in the nutrition facts these companies make their drink look a lot less than they really are, in several twelve to twenty four fluid ounce drinks contain two to three serving sizes per can. So what the nutrition facts are telling you is that the number under sugar carbs and sever other ingredients are either two to three times more than what are listed. Due to this these major companies have been sued for false advertising but were never apprehended of the offense and got away with several lawsuits.…

    Scientific Method

In performing this experiment, students apprehend and grasp the concept of the “scientific method” and its segments. The scientific method is analytically preceded by researchers to answer a question(s). First, the analyst states the problem based on contemplations. Next, a hypothesis is formed, which means the analyst made an educated guess (solution) to the problem. Before an experiment is performed the analyst has to make a prediction. A prediction is what the person assumes the outcome of the experiment will be, if their hypothesis is precise. When making a prediction it is stated in a manner of “if…..then…” Then the analyst tests the hypothesis. The experiment is manipulated so that changes to one variable cause another to interchange in order to fit your hypothesis. Variables are facts or conditions that are changed. There are three main variables in the scientific method; dependent variable, independent variable and controlled variable. Dependent variable is variables affected by the independent variable. Independent variable is the variables being tested. Controlled variable is variables that remain constant in the experiment. In this experiment five males and five females whose pulse rate and respiratory rate were recorded before and after exercising, to determine cardiovascular fitness with respect to gender. The controlled variables were the environment conditions, same time-span (minutes to exercise) and the same stool. The dependent variables were pulse and respiratory rate based on gender and the independent variables were male and female.…
