D1 1.1 Safeguarding is a mandatory requirement in all settings, all staff and practitioners that have access to children have to undergo a DBS check (disclosure barring service), and this process searches the individual’s history for any criminal activity. To apply for a DBS you must provide proof of identification and your residence. Until you are your DBS has been cleared you are not allowed to be left with children. The DBS has to be renewed every three years, and is the reasonability of the settings manager to make sure that this happens, also you have to declare if you have any convictions after the DBS is completed. This also applies for anyone you are living with. Safeguarding is the act in which you are protecting children against maltreatment,

Staff supervisions process is should be conducted every 3 months and safeguarding and health and safety should be a standard agenda item which gives staff the opportunity to discuss any concerns. All staff is inducted into company procedures are aware of the need to report any concerns immediately to their supervisor. Safeguarding does not just include abuse but also health and safety concerns and changes in needs and condition. Staffs are trained in the need to report any changes in client’s conditions as soon as possible. Other policies include the health and safety policy, reporting of accidents and incidents, and other associated health and safety policies.
