Too many times people ask “Do you think physical looks are important in love?” In a way, they are important. Then again, if you really think about it, they shouldn’t be. Love shouldn’t happen at first sight, because that would be contradicting the quote “Don’t judge a book by its cover”. Well, that is exactly what you’re doing. If you see someone that is very pretty or handsome and then decide if you want to be their friend by not even exchanging words with them, you are judging a book by its cover. It’s as simple as that. There is nothing wrong with being attracted to someone because of the way their outward appearance shows, but that should not be the only reason why you love them so very dearly.
Many people fall in love with the outside of a person, or someone they just met when really, they should be falling in love with their best friend; someone who knows them like no other. The personality of a person should be the main reason why you fall in love with them, not because they just look good. In Cyrano de Bergerac, Christian asks Roxanne whether she would still love him, even if he’d be ugly or disfigured. Roxanne admits that she would love him no matter what, therefore making Christian realize that it’s Cyrano she really loves. A little while later, Cyrano talks to Roxanne and he asks her if she would love Christian if he were very ugly, and she still says that she would, even if he were to be dreadfully disfigured or grotesque. In conclusion, physical looks shouldn’t matter as much as the inside of a person should when you are in love with them.
