CYPOP 5: Understand how to set up a home based child care service
1. Understand how to set up a home based childcare service.
1.4 Develop a marketing plan for own home based childcare service Ideally I am looking to childmind 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday as a home based childcare service and I am happy to take any child from the ages 6 months to 8 years keeping to my ratios of 6 children under the age of 8 at any one time. My first step will be doing a bit of research in my area to see what other child-minders are offering and see what hourly rate they are charging. I will try to offer something that no other child-minder in my area offers even if it means taking extra classes to provide this currently I have level two British sign language and love teaching dancing, singing and acting at my local theatre group . I will make posters and hand out business cards advertising myself and my business keeping them clear and accurate showing what I can offer to the children in my care making sure I highlight any unique selling points for example homely environment, school pick-ups and drop offs, lots of area to explore outside, ease of parking etc. I will post them in shop windows, doctor’s surgeries, dentists, preschools and primary schools and anywhere children based, I will also make flyers and do a door to door drop and hand the flyers out at the local schools. I have looked at free local online advertising and have register with childcare.co.uk and similar sites which advertise what childcare you’re offering so parents can see information about you and your child-care you offer. I also think word of mouth is one of the best forms of advertising so I will also be trying to advertise that way in my local area. I will also invest in a magnetic strip for my car and the business cards which I will carry around with me so that anywhere I go I can give out my information about my home based childcare.

1.5 Demonstrate financial planning for own home based service

Kate needs to find a suitable care for her daughter Olivia. Kate’s day care centre does not operate extended hours. An alternative arrangement for Olivia would be to hire a Nanny. A Nanny can be employed by the family and can work on either a live-in or live-out basis to take care of Olivia. The advantages of hiring a Nanny are that the child will be getting a one-on one care and the care will be focused on her rather than a large amount of children. Another advantage of having a Nanny is that the child will stay in their home and that will be a familiar environment for the child which enables a sense of security for the child. A nanny would normally be a professional child carer and have the relevant qualifications. This is not for all situations though. An estimated fee for a Nanny would be between $14 - $35 per hour.…

Nurseries offer full or part time places from birth to school age, they are private businesses in their own premises and they charge a fee, apart from some free hours for 3-4 year olds from the government. Childminders are self-employed and offer full or part time provision from birth to school age, run in the childminders home, they charge a fee to parents. Both nurseries and childminders are a good option for fulltime working parents. Pre-schools offer part time provision for 2 ½ year olds to school age, they are normally run in community premises and are free for 3-4 year olds, and they are run by a committee and parents.…

I will be producing a welcome to my setting booklet. Within this I will outline some relevant legislation, if there are any language barriers this will be helpful to take home and use google translate or Babel fish for on line translation. During our first meeting I would talk about the children act 2004 and that I adhere to this by treating all children as individuals and with equal concern .I will treat all children and their families with respect and in a fair way, I will not discriminate and will have inclusive practices, I believe every child is different and special in their on right and would hope to help build their own sense of identity and self worth and in doing this encourage their own ideas, opinions and independence .The children will be kept safe by using health and safety guidelines, food hygiene, child protection and safeguarding. They will enjoy and achieve by taking part in learning activities suitable and enjoyable to them and achieving end results. I would show them my paediatric first aid certificate and also my personal emergency plan and first aid box. I would inform the parents that their information is kept in a secure area and remains confidential and it would only be shared between them, myself and Anjum, I would be clear that the only exception to this would be if I had such concerns that I would need to instigate the safeguarding procedure and sharing information with parents could jeopardise the safety of the child. I would need the parents to sign a photographic permission slip to keep on file. The early years foundation stage underpins all activities and routines I will be setting, I would explain it is a central part to the childrencare act 2006 and aims to help children learn and develop through their own individual needs and interests. For Anjum I would be taking her to groups ,so she could interact with others, I will develop a routine to help her feel safe and…

There are three different options available for childcare; in-home childcare, day care centers and babysitters. With in-home child care, you hire a nanny to look after your children at home. For most families this is the easiest option for them however it is the most expensive. A day care center is an actual place parents bring their children to and it allows them to interact with other children and learn social skills. A downside to daycare centers is the risk of your child facing fights with other children. The final option listed involves hiring a babysitter. Babysitters are usually rotated and paid only when they watch the children opposed to a regular flow of income. You must be very careful when choosing a baby sitter, and be sure to run background checks. I personally believe that day care centers will be the most beneficial for me when I decide to start a family.…

There are three main types of childcare settings; these are voluntary, statutory and private. Private settings are those which are set up to make the owner a profit. A few examples of these are private day nurseries, childminders, nannies and work place nurseries. The setting I am focusing on is a private day nursery. The nursery opened 1997 and operates from a private home. It is open 49 weeks of the year, opening from 9-6 five days a week. The setting is able to have 24 children on site at one time aged between one and five. The setting ensures that all children are warmly welcomed and ensure a safe and stimulating environment. On their website they say their aim is to promote a “home from home atmosphere”. The staff meets the children’s care and learning needs. This is done by carefully planning activities to meet all children’s needs and abilities. It is important that the staff build a good bond with the children’s parents/ carers as this builds up the trust between them. This is done by the setting having a good communication between the parents and the setting; they use daily diary sheets, home link books, parent’s evenings and eating plans to ensure that each child’s needs are met.…
