In The Curious Incident of the Dog in The Night-Time, the protagonist Christopher Boone copes with the loss of his mothers supposed death through the relationship he continues with his father. Christopher moves on with life very easily after his mother’s death by saying that “when mother died she didn’t go to heaven because heaven doesn’t exist”. Christopher’s approach to the allusion of Heaven is too realistic which causes him to view the situation in a much too logical way and thus enables him to accept the loss because it is presented in a way in which he understands. Furthermore the loss of his mother causes Christopher to become more dependent on his father and by doing this it creates a stronger relationship with his father that is built on trust. This relationship is maintained in the first half of the novel with Ed respecting Christopher in ways in which his mother didn’t such as being patient with him. Christopher’s character allows his order of thinking to help him cope under situations of loss and move on with ease.…

Laurie lied about who Charles was to be able to talk to his parents about something without them knowing that Charles did not exist and the he was the one committing all of the acts that were claimed to be Charles. Laurie had lied about Charles in every scenario that had truly been him, both positive and negative, this means that Laurie had lied to his parents quite a lot, making himself a rather large liar. One of these many instances occurred when “Charles yelled during story hour and hit a boy in the stomach and made him cry.”(347), once again lying about who had really completed those acts. Even so, Laurie’s mother still found out about Charles at the PTA meeting when “ No one mentioned Charles” (349), and after confronting the teacher learned that Charles did not exist and that Laurie had committed all of the misconducts. This reason shows that Laurie is a liar as well as a misbehaving attention seeker and shows how he had…

Christopher's father is justified in his actions to hide the truth about his mother from him because his father knows that mother thinks of Christopher as a chore and he didn't want Christopher to feel sad. For instance, when mother writes a letter to Christopher, and explains why she left and says, “ I'm not like your father. Your father is a much more patient person. Maybe if things had been different, maybe if you’d been different, I might have been better at it. But that's just the way things turned out”(Haddon 106). Christopher’s mother shouldn't think of Christopher as a chore; that is morally wrong for a parent to think of their child as a chore. It’s not Christopher’s fault that he has a mild autism. As the parent of the child with…

Although it is evident that Mr. Boone, loves, protects and cares about Christopher, he sometimes finds it hard to cope and understand Christopher’s behavior but strives to maintain a stable relationship. "‘OK, maybe I don't tell the truth all the time. God knows, I try, Christopher, God knows I do…. And I want to know that I'm trying, I really am’”. (Haddon, 2003, Page 150). This quote shows the determination of his father, trying to make him understand his reason for his actions. We learn that Judy Boone, Christopher’s mother, is impatient but loving and has trouble handling the pressure of Christopher’s condition. Evidence of this is shown when she states, “But I said I couldn't take it anymore and eventually he got really cross…”, (Haddon, 2003, Page 134) referring to Christopher’s behavior. Although it is shown that she appears to be impatient at times, as the novel progresses we learn that continued to write forty- three letters in the span of 2 years to Christopher without a…

However, when his mother dies, he feels cheated out of information he has a right to know. John thinks he knows his mother, but she is not who he thinks she is. She sings under the name “The lady in red” and dresses quite differently from the way she does in Gravesend. Owen accompanies John to Boston to help him discover the truth about Tabitha, John’s mother. The two visit the store where Tabitha purchased her red dress. Jerrold, the owner says, “Sure I know her! It was the dress she always sung in!” (7.347). Jerrold’s reaction to Tabitha’s picture shows John that his mother is not someone he knows and that she lived a completely different life. John is talking to Reverend Merrill when Owen’s voice tells him to “LOOK IN THE THIRD DRAWER, RIGHT-HAND SIDE” (9.542). Reverend Merrill yanks the drawer open, which causes the baseball that killed Tabitha to roll across the floor. The Reverend then turns to John and says, “Forgive me, my s-s-s-son!” (9.542).
