What the Harry. C. Moore Library Contains
As you enter the Harry.C.Moore Library you would see the display on majority rule straight ahead. There were tall bulletin boards that were decorated with black and blue papers which had the label mark of what was shown. On the left, there was a bulletin that had newspapers telling about the Black Vote Revolt in the Bahamas where Sir Lynden Pindling led the party to victory on islands that were 50 miles from Florida. There were pictures of how they celebrated the victory which were by greeting the Bahamian people and by having an after party with cake, food and wine. On the right, there was another bulletin with the list of the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) elected members, the areas in which they ran and the complete election results. In the center, there were photos in a glass showcase of Sir Lynden Pindling, Sir Clifford Darling and Sir Randal Fawkes. There was also a glass showcase of newspapers which told what happen the day after the election. In the corner to the left, there was a showcase of books which were written by Bahamian Authors about the history of the Bahamas and persons who had made contribution to the Bahamas. Everything that one needs to know about the Bahamas is in those books. In the center to the back, there was the Constitution of the Bahama Islands in a showcase which was the Appointment of Sir Lynden Pindling to the office of Premier. To the back, there were large photos with the 12 cabinet members, the first meeting with Queen Elizabeth the second, the PLP “Delegation of Eight at the United Nations, New York and Sir Lynden Pindling returning to Nassau from Andros after a landslide PLP victory.
However, the display was very informative and interesting because it told of everything that happened on majority rule. No detail was left out. There were stories of what had happened that day of the election, the results of the election, the activities that took place during the day and what happened the day after the election. I loved the

The game reflected the actual political process because it provided a stimulation of the choices politicians have to make in order to have and maintain a successful campaign. The fact that the game only provided 4 options/moves for each round was very unrealistic. A campaign entails much more than just 4 consistent activities. The game expanded my knowledge of elections that I gathered from the book and this week’s learnsmart by providing a visual explanation of how elections…

The 1906 general election is often referred to as the ‘liberal landslide’, but the success of the liberal party was arguably due more to conservative mistakes than what they offered new politically. A number of key conservative policies (all highly played out in the national press) all played a part in the reversal of almost 20 years of tory rule in the 1906 election.…

The two different parties had to go to what they saw as extreme lengths to secure voters' loyalty and to encourage them to vote. This included the setting up of party clubs and trips to places such as the seaside as rewards for people who promised to vote for a certain political party. In a way, it shows how this outcome was significant in advancing political organisation and professionalism yet in other ways it just maintained the old influential schemes that politicians used but at last, they had to actually be clever to use these rather than to blatantly bribe and influence people. They could still influence people, just as they had done with the open ballots, but this time they had to do it with rewards and false promises. To a certain extent, this can still be seen to be happening in our political system…

One of the most obvious and powerful developments seen in1984 is the extreme government control in the lives of society. The Party's slogan "Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past" (Book III Ch. II) plays an integral role in bringing out the theme of how the Party controls information and history in the novel. By controlling the present, the Party is able to manipulate the past. And in controlling the past, the Party can justify all of its actions in the present. "So long as they are not permitted to have standards of comparison, they never become aware that they are oppressed" (Book II Ch. IX). This complete power that the Party has over information and history; means that it is able justify all of its actions in the present. With their Ministries the government can monitor all that goes on within the society and correct it before there is a rebellion. The Ministry of Truth, arguably the most influential, demonstrates another way in which the Party controls every source of information. This Ministry of Truth is in charge of doctoring the pages of history, so it fits in with the Party's ideology. This enables the Party to erase the parts of history and…
