Τhe film I chose to critique this week is the classic family comedy Home Alone (1990) directed by Chris Columbus. Leading actors in this film is eight year old Kevin McCallister played by Macaulay Culkin, along with Peter McCallister, the father, played by John Heard, Mrs. McCallister played by Catherine O’Hara, Marv, who is the first burglar, played by Daniel Stern, and Harry, the other burglar played by Joe Pesci. Other characters in this film are Buzz the brother, mean Uncle Frank, and creepy old man Marley. The title of the film hints to the audience that someone is home alone, but the viewer does not know what happens in the story until watching the film, which makes it more interesting. This film is about a large family who gets together for a Christmas trip to Paris, but the night before they leave there is a wind storm, which knocks out all of the power, which means their alarm clock does not go off, and they sleep in. This puts them in a mad rush to get to the airport, in turn leaving Kevin behind, and the rest continue on to a fun family adventure.…

Mel Brooks’ Blazing Saddles is a satirical comedy movie that was released in 1974. It is a movie that took the serious situation of racism and stereotypes and turned them into a lighter, more comical topic. The element that made this movie so great is that throughout the movie, by using the theme of general racism, Mel Brooks was able to address all sorts of different stereotypes making people see the faults in all races and ethnicities.…

On October 18th I went and saw The Rocky Horror Show at the 6th Street Playhouse. The show was playing from Sep 20 to Oct 13 and then got extended to show on Oct. 18th, 19th, 25th, 26th, and the 31st .The 6th street playhouse acting company did a marvelous job taping into their characters and expressing the emotions for every situation their character had. This play was based off of a movie called “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” about a very innocent and nonsexual couple who gets in a car wreck late at night while it’s raining. After this car wreck the couple goes to a house looking to borrow a phone and end up running into an alien transvestite mad scientist who has been building the perfect man to be his sex toy. With this man being born on their arrival the couple was in for a strange, magical, sexual and frightening experience. This large group that lived in the house seemed to love singing and wearing little clothing. In their time in this house they both lost their virginity, seen many deaths and in the end were able to escape alive as two of the aliens traveled back to their home planet “Transsexual Transylvania.”…

    Film Music Critique

The movie opens with the main title fading in from black accompanied by a light string tone with horns backing them up (with a quick electric guitar when De Niro’s and Pacino’s names appear). This sets the overall tone for the movie presenting more of a serious / dramatic feel. The LA Metro begins to immerge into the background. The music complements the train passing, closely resembling the way Quincy Jones scored the opening of In Cold Blood with the bus passing by. There is a little change to the music when Robert De Niro’s character appears on screen which has a jazz tone that lets the audience know that this is in the city, in this case downtown Los Angeles. The music follows De Niro to an emergency hospital. At this point the music turns more intense with guitar and a prominent bass line moving the action along. There is a use of low strings moving very rapidly in the background that helps push the action along even more as he walks through the E.R. This music carries on when the scene cuts and goes to Val Kilmer making a purchase in a construction yard. The music connects the two characters by carrying over through the scene. It also has an ominous feel…

    Lincoln Movie Review

    • 641 Words
    • 3 Pages

The movie Lincoln, directed by the infamous Steven Spielberg, is based on the life of Abraham Lincoln and his efforts to pass the Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, which would abolish slavery completely. With the assumption that the Civil War would end in one month, however, Abraham feels it it is imperative to pass the amendment by the end of January, thus removing any possibility that slaves who have already been freed may be re-enslaved. Radical Republicans believe the amendment will be defeated, due to the support of it not being completely assured, since they prioritize the issue of ending the war. Even if all of them are ultimately brought on board, the amendment will still require the support of several Democratic congressmen if it is to pass. With dozens of Democrats having just lost their re-election campaigns in the fall of 1864, some of Lincoln's advisers believe that he should wait until the new Republican-heavy Congress is seated, presumably giving the amendment an easier road to passage. Lincoln, however, remains adamant about having the amendment in place and the issue of slavery settled before the war is concluded and the southern States reintegrated into the Union.…

    Amadeus Movie Review

    • 584 Words
    • 2 Pages

The title of the movie should actually be "Salieri", because the whole movie is really about his jealousy of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and how Salieri was overshadowed musically by Mozart. In the beginning, Salieri makes a "deal" with God so He will make Salieri a musical genius, and Salieri believes he has been granted this gift until the day Mozart comes to Vienna. Salieri immediately becomes jealous that God has bestowed upon Mozart the power he himself worked so desperately to achieve. From that point on, Salieri becomes obsessed with conspiring against Mozart, at one point paying a maid to go to Mozart's place to spy while she is cleaning and report back to him. Eventually, though indirectly, Salieri kills Mozart.…
