AO1.1 Identify and Questions.
For my research task I have chosen the question “Research the use of food additives in convenience food. Using a convenience food of your choice, carry out a comparative analysis with a homemade equivalent.” For me to investigate the question correctly I will need research a range of additives look at how they are use in convenience foods and develop a dish which is homemade and hopefully taste better. AO1.2 Assemble Relevant Information.

Types of Additives.| Example of foods it’s in.| Their uses.| Preservatives.| Used in bacon, sausages, cooked meats and pies.| These are used to prevent decay and make food safe to eat for longer periods.| Antioxidants.| Used in fats, such as cakes, biscuits, pastries.| These are used to prevent fats and oils from becoming rancid.| Colourings.| Used in sweets, yogurts, desserts, tinned peas and soups.| These are used to add to colour to products.| Flavourings.| Used in ice cream, chocolate mousse, yogurts, crisps and soft drinks. | These are used to add flavours to products.| Flavour Enhancers.| Used in readymade meals, cook-in sauces.| These are used to give more intense flavours to foods.| Emulsifiers.| Used in salad dressing, mayonnaise and low fat spreads.| These are used to mix water and oil together in a stable solution and to prevent separation.| Stabilisers.| Used in many products, such as cook-in sauces and yogurts.| These are similar to emulsifiers and are used to prevent separation.| An average man needs around 2,500 calories a day to maintain his weight. For an average woman, she’ll need around 2,000 calories a day. These values can vary depending on age and levels of physical activity, among other factors. Questionnaire: Age- How old are you?
