Counseling Profession Paper

According to the course literature (2010), counseling is defined as a proactive, historically oriented process for helping persons learn to cope with problems of living and for promoting health development. It is an interpersonal process involving professional with the requisite graduate education and experience in counseling, using scientifically validated methods working with an individual, family, group, organization or specialization community that is seeking assistance (p.g 4-5).
The three historical events that I believe has impacted on the counseling profession today occurred during the time period between 1960’s-1980’s. the need for guidelines to protect and guide the development of the profession of counseling led to accreditation
