Conservative Double Standards
I know that conservatives aren't the only ones who have double standards. I'm sure liberals and radicals contradict themselves just as much, if not more than traditionalists. But, my job was to analyze the conservative side, and somehow, I feel like I have already touched these grounds before. I have a friend who has strong conservative views and is constantly reminding people that racism does not exist. But then later he will point at a commercial and comment on how racist it was. Which makes me believe that he just states things for the sake of arguing. So, what did this analysis teach me? It's hard to say. But, maybe "we the people" need to be further informed on the subject that we are defending and actually, believe it. Because if we are

In his 2016 Time editorial “Politically incorrect? Or master strategist? Try both,” basketball icon and human rights activist Kareem Abdul-Jabbar claims that presenting examples of extreme political correctness allows the political incorrect to deny the problem exist at all. Jabbar makes an effective argument using mockery and pathos. Jabbars clever use of mocker throughout the article helps his argument. He writes, “The real problem, they want to tell us, is the cure. As do vaccination deniers and climate change skeptics” (Jabbar Para. 10). This is a subtle jab at the Republican party and is meant to discredit the party. Jabbar uses this mockery throughout the article and if not looked over carefully it may go unnoticed. It is used to…

A prevalent question that comes up while studying America’s past is “was the American Revolution a true revolution?”. Depending on the whether the historian sides with the theory of a strict or loose constructionist, the answer will vary. Strict constructionists tend to believe that a revolution produces a significant end result whereas loose constructionists refer to any type of violence in conjunction with a constitution, rulers, or policies. This differentiation leads to the topics of conservatism and radicalism. In correlation with the American revolution, conservatists claim that the outcome of the revolution was nothing great. On the other hand, radicalists feel that the changes after the revolution were extraordinary. Pulitzer Prize-winning Carl N. Delger agrees with the conservatists…

The delineations of the words "liberal" and "conservative" shifted at the start of the Great Depression. Although laissez-faire policy was thought to be liberal in the Roaring 20's, the year 1929 quickly changed America's idea of liberalism entirely. The hardnosed Franklin Delano Roosevelt and the saavy Herbert Hoover both believed they alone could improve America's economic depression. Their political standings have been wholly analyzed, and although the two men did express ideas which were contradictory to their original political standpoints, one possessed more liberal ideas by wanting to change the government, versus more conservative ideas; wanting to keep the government as it was.…

PS M122B / ENV M161 2013 Paper #1 Frayman, Daniel Issue: Affirmative Action After reviewing two distinct sources, Wikipedia and Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy (SEP), on the issue of affirmative action, it is evident of the disparities regarding the content in each. These differences arise from the fact that Wikipedia is a “bottom up” foundation where its articles are created and edited by random public volunteers while SEP is considered a “top down” encyclopedia that has its information written and released by experts or scholars only. When comparing coverage and treatment of a highly debated topic in affirmative action between an open- and expert-curated source, readers would notice the overall variation in the particular content displayed…

What is learned as a child stays with you for the rest of your life. We have given teaches the awesome responsibility of molding our young. They take a head full of mush and fill it with facts (Limbaugh). Do we want them to impart their political agendas on our vulnerable children? I think not!!! Studies have shown that most teachers have very definite liberal leanings. They often show that bias in the classroom. If there is one thing that my mother has told me is that direct omission is a lie, and if you are going to present your liberal views then you must also present the conservative rebuttal. However, this is not what is happening is today 's schools. In fact, teachers often give lower grades for writings that do not agree with their points of view. This incursion of liberal views occurs from kindergarten, to the elementary school, to the middle school, to the high school, and even to the college campuses. Most students spend in excess of 6 hours per day in school, 180 days a year. That is greater than 6,5 00 hours of their lives, just in elementary school. Add high school and that amount doubles. That is a lot of time and a lot of power given over to teachers. Some of them abuse it. Let me show you what I mean, by giving just a few examples.…

The age-old double standard of sexuality and gender is a historical and still currently prevalent issue that both male and females both face, though one more than the other. A double standard, as defined by Merriam Webster, is a set of principles that apples differently and usually more rigorously to one group of people or circumstances than to another. It is clearly evident that there are double standards within the sexes regarding sexuality. Women are ridiculed, shamed, and stigmatized for being sexual beings, whereas men are praised, revered, and commended for being sexual beings.…

    Biases In College

This started when I was old enough to notice politics, my parents would always be very negative when they explained to me the Republican Party so I carried that with me growing up. Coupled with that is then the homophobic, islamophobic, xenophobic hate speech that I’ve heard from so many republican candidates (i.e. Trump, Palin, Rubio etc.) although during my time in college I have come to learn that politics is a lot more grey than how my parents initially explained it to me. Additionally I try to pay more attention to politics on both side of the aisle and constantly remind myself that it’s a spectrum and the political beliefs of a person most times does not correlate with whether or not they are a good person. I think I struggle with this bias the most out of all of my biases because of how vocal the radicals in the party are and how in my eyes at least it seems that they have no regard for any other human being, what I forget though it that there are radicals on both side of the aisle and that I shouldn’t be quick to judge or assume that the loudest voices speaks for the entire…
