Comparing Diary Of Anne Frank And Dear Miss Breed
Does it ever feel like the challenges in life will not go away, and that there is never any easy way to overcome them? The most rewarding results actually come from one specific method. The memoirs, “Diary of Anne Frank”,written by Anne Frank, and “Dear Miss Breed”, by Joanne Oppenheim contribute evidence to this method. The best way for people to overcome conflict is by staying true to what they believe in and by keeping a positive mind frame.
Remaining positive during tough times not only helps to overcome challenges, but it also helps people’s health in the long run. According to a contributor from Forbes, “Pessimism is trouble because it's bad for your health. Numerous studies have shown that optimists are physically and psychologically

According to the Mayo Clinic, “Positive thinking often starts with self-talk. Self-talk is the endless stream of unspoken thoughts that run through your head. These automatic thoughts can be positive or negative. Some of your self-talk comes from logic and reason. Other self-talk may arise from misconceptions that you create because of lack of information” (Positive Thinking). Being optimistic is absolutely mental. The Mayo Clinic shares the most effective ways to becoming optimistic, “If you want to become more optimistic and engage in more positive thinking, first identify areas of your life that you usually think negatively about, whether it's work, your daily commute or a relationship. You can start small by focusing on one area to approach in a more positive way” (Positive thinking). In order to stay positive the person needs to know they can get over the challenges, “One fundamental attitude is to presume that all problems can be solved and we possess in us the ability to solve the problem in hand. Adopting such an attitude, we would explore all resources and go the extra mile to get things done” (Yew). It is possible to stay positive when conditions are not running …show more content…
One example is Malala Yousafzai, who said, “I raise up my voice-not so I can shout, but so that those without a voice can be heard...we cannot succeed when half of us are held back” ("Malala Yousafzai Quotes."). Even when a complex situation came her way, Yousafzai never resorted to being negative. Instead, she tried to help others. Charlize Theoron is another example. Theoron did not let her issues define her, and, “... instead of letting the trauma define her future, she looked to her mother’s protective example of strength and worked to build an amazing sense of confidence of her own. She continued to pursue her acting career, and she ultimately became the first South African actress to win an Academy Award” (Hall). She did not look at the negative, but instead used her mother’s example to help define her future. Larry Bird is also a prime example when it comes to using positivity to really get to the next level of what he loved. Larry Bird was faced with challenges quite early in life, “When he was 18 years old, his father committed suicide only a year after his parents divorced, and he channeled his pain and anger into his incessant practicing. It motivated him to attend college and focus just as much on his education as basketball — in fact, he decided to finish his degree rather than taking the Celtics up on their initial draft offer” (Hall). Being positive, and not letting the negative

But hey, just look on the bright side. I mean it’s always darkest before the dawn. If you dream it, you can do it. Watch. No? Oh well. America today is decidedly and unwaveringly optimistic, we are positive thinkers. Positive thinking is defined by one of its leading advocates, Dr. Charlene Proctor as “the process of choosing positive emotions to create an outlook that translates into a new or better-chosen reality.” In short, our thoughts and attitude can affect the course of the outside world, so we should strive to be positive to reap positive outcomes, while stifling negativity for the opposite reason. We praise the optimist while shunning the pessimist. But the question is does every cloud have a silver lining? In order to show positive thinking as the dangerous paradigm that it is we will first examine the causes of positive thinking, move onto its effects, and then finally round out with solutions.…
