Compare And Contrast Vesuvius Vs St Helens
Mount Vesuvius 79 A.D VS Mount St Helens 1980

Would you rather be by Vesuvius when it erupted or be by St Helens when it erupted?. Some people ask this question because both eruptions seemed pretty bad . For example , pompeii was covered in ash because of vesuvius. Although, there are many differences between the two volcanoes and their eruptions they also have a lot in common. These are some ways they are alike and different.

Both volcanoes have a lot in common. For example, there both stratovolcanoes. A stratovolcano is one of the deadliest type of volcanoes because they make toxic gasses and also make pyroclastic flow. Also, both volcanoes preceded by tremors,which are small earthquakes . Also, they both had giant ash clouds over the two volcanoes when they erupted.In addition, the big ash on both volcanoes cloud spudded out more ash and pumice. .During the both eruptions people sadly lost their lives. Lastly, both were damaged a lot by the two volcanoes. Those are some things the two volcanoes have in common. …show more content…
For example, St Helens erupted in 1980 A.D and vesuvius erupted in 79 A.D. Also, vesuvius covered pompeii in volcanic ash. In addition vesuvius’s eruption was 24 hours long. During the mount st helens eruption most escaped with their lives , however this was not the case with vesuvius. Most people died during the eruption of vesuvius because they had no advanced warning. In addition, most people survived during the St Helens eruption because they had advanced warning from scientists that studied the volcano. Those are many ways how the two volcanoes are

    Firstly I do not agree with this view I believe it is more to do with the human decisions that make a volcanic eruption a hazard. For example we can see this in such volcanic events such as Mount Pelée which erupted in 1902. In the town of St Pierre there was early warning or an eruption from the volcano. From mid-April animals in the area started dying from poisonous gas realised from the volcano. In early may more signs where showing to an eruption in the near future this made the inhabitants of the town nervous and some moving out to a safe distance from the volcano. However there was an election due to take place on the 10th May so the current governor did not want the population spread across the island, he decided to call in the army to keep people in the town and stop them leaving. On the 8th may the pressure became too much and caused an gas explosion which lead to a pyroclastic flow moving at 200kmph heading toward the town of St Pierre killing all but 2 of the 29,000 inhabitants. This shows how human decision coursed unnecessary death. I believe that if the evacuation took place when the early warning where recognised that the loss of life would have been kept down to smaller number.…
