Skylar Stephen Mrs. Carey Ela/per.1 10 April 2024 Rogue Waves and Tsunamis What is the difference between Rogue waves and Tsunamis? Rogue waves are dangerous massive waves that come unpredictably, but tsunamis are more clear and cause destruction with multiple big waves. Rogue waves and tsunamis have some similarities, but also have many differences. Rogue waves are powerful and unsystematically disastrous big waves seen far out in deep waters. Based on what the text says, “The surrounding sea can appear calm when suddenly a wave as high as 100 feet above the ocean’s surface comes crashing towards you” (Simmons 58). The water can seem normal when an enormous wave could randomly come towering over you as high as a ten-story building. This, according …show more content…
A rogue wave could be as tall as a skyscraper or as small as a current depending on its interference. Rogue waves are giant, imposing waves that can be caused by components like wind and the collision of multiple waves. Tsunamis are huge towering waves that can be found far out in the ocean, similar to rogue waves. In the article Tsunamis it states, “When the waves approach land and shallow water, they pile up and grow in height” (Ducksters.com 1). What the article is saying is that the waves grow and get bigger as they reach shore and can end up gigantic. According to scientists, a tsunami can be caused when there is a large displacement of water. Based on the article, “Tsunamis are caused by landslides, volcanoes, or earthquakes that occur on the ocean floor” (Simmons 61). A tsunami could be caused deep underwater from an earthquake or the rumble of a volcano, and even from the effect of a landslide. Finally, tsunamis are a bunch of enormous waves caused by natural disasters like earthquakes, volcanoes, landslides, and even meteorites.
