After describing and laying out the basics of imperialism I will compare and contrast two to three different regions/areas in which the United States had some sort of imperialist presence or ruling which will further help define the sort of activity that was in effect at the time by the United States and its connection to Latinos, Chicanos and other races or ethnicity. Specific attention will be paid to various theories and chronological events that take place in the understanding of the United States imperialist involvements in the regions of the Southern part of the U.S., some of Central America along with the Caribbean. The policy is often brought into realization through a variety of means like through diplomacy, military force and other factors. The thing about imperialism is that the context of imperialism can be broken down into four different types which are described and categorized individually. Each one of course has the overall theme of imperialism but differs from one another because of different meaning or basis. The four different categories and types of imperialism are colonial, political, economic and socio-cultural imperialism. Colonial imperialism is a form of imperialism that is basically a complete takeover of an area and what this means is that all aspects that make up the area will be controlled. The area that is conquered exists only as a benefit to the imperial power which has taken it over thus the area has no action or say. Economic imperialism is a form of imperialism that is allows the conquered nation to act on its own but has conditions set like having control of the conquered nations business and trade. Political imperialism can be understood differently than the other imperialism forms in that its basic meaning is that it allows the country to have its own native political figures in top positions but when it comes to being told what to do it is operated by the imperialist country itself.
