1. How many rules for effective listening and speaking has Jack broken? While communicating with Ms. Lee, Mr. Jack has broken the following effective listening and speaking rules: Effective Listening: * Talk less and listen more. * Seek new information. * Do not stop listening before the other person finishes because you think you know what he or she is going to say. * Do not assume that you know what the other person means. * Do not-interrupt. * Show interest. Lean forward, nod, or smile. Effective Speaking: * Do not be afraid to answer a question with a question. * Do not answer a question if the timing does not suit your strategy, but promise to answer it later. * Do not ask a question that will trigger the reciprocal question back to you if you are not ready or prepared to answer it. * Restate or summarize what you understood the other person to say * State your understanding and appreciation for the other's position. * Do not be offensive or rude. * Do not say things to show off. 2. How well has Wei handled this conflict? Can you suggest any alternative actions that would have been consistent with good practices? Ms. Lee not so well handled the conflict. When Mr. Jack was rude & commanding her to done the project without any excuse, she should not replied to him “Fine. I quit. Do it yourself” and then there is the conflict turned around between both of them. Instead of sudden aggressive reply to Mr. Jack rude behavior, she would have listen to him properly in a relaxed way and the let the things go on and communicate to him when he is relaxed. I suggest some alternative Effective Listening and Speaking actions should have been chosen by Ms. Wei Lee while communicating with Mr. Jack.
