Colombiana Film Summary
In this scene from the movie Colombiana which was produced by Luc Besson, A girl grows up seeking revenge from an incident that occurred when she was very young. She then was raised by her uncle who taught her everything she knows about school as well as living the life of an assassin Fabio, Cataleya’s father takes three guards loyal to him and races home, knowing they have only an hour to leave the country. Fabio gets home and tells his wife, Alicia, that "it's time". He tells his young daughter, Cataleya, to pack but she says she is already ready. Fabio tells her in case something happens, she should go the “American embassy” and give them a microchip He hands her tie microchip and she sticks it in her mouth. It has all the information …show more content…
Fabio then gives his daughter his necklace that has the Cataleya flower on it. She was named after it, because his mother always grew them. "Never forget who you are." he says. Minutes later, Marco and numerous cartel members show up and slaughter Fabio's men. Fabio and Alicia grab guns and try to hold the men off but are killed off-screen. Cataleya sits at the table in shock and listens to the gunfire. She quickly swallows the microchip. Marco and the men come up to Cataleya. Marco pretends to be friendly saying he was a friend of her father but Fabio took something from Don Luis; the microchip. Marco asks if she knows where it is and she nods. Marco asks what she wants. Cataleya leans in close... and grabs a knife placed under the tabled and stabs him in the hand. "To kill Don Luis!" screams Cataleya. Cataleya scoops through a window and onto a ledge. Marco’s cartel members try to shoot the 10 year old as she escapes but Marco screams “we need her alive.” She runs off to escape while Marco's cartel men chase her through the city. Despite being chased by several men running and driving cars Cataleya escapes through a sewer and that was the last they saw of her. Throughout the rest of the movie she fights these men in order to seek revenge for her …show more content…
Throughout the movie Cataleya places the symbol of her name which is a flower on each victim that she kills. The director does a good job of making this her name and the signature of the movie as well as the character. The camera gets a close up of Cataleyas face showing her fear in all that was going on especially when she talked to Marco. The music in the background gives a sense of seriousness to that particular moment and makes the viewer more interested in what is going on. When Marco talks her, you can tell he is trying to get into her skin and make her confess about the chip that he wants. Since she is young he talks to her softly not trying to harm her in anyway, but just wants her to give him what he wants. By calling her sweetheart and telling her “smart girls always get what they want” he is forcing her to give in. What he doesn’t know is the strength she carries and her ability and knowledge of secretly hiding a knife in order to stab him. When she escapes the music beings to sound like something adventurous is happening, for instance the song would most likely be in a spider man movie when he is saving the day. The purpose of this clip is to make the viewers want to watch more and want to know if Marco and his cartels will ever find the girl, or what will happen when she gets older. Action movies like this interest all of their viewers especially women because usually women are not

In effect, by glossing over Selena’s transition into the Latin American the film Selena ignores her accomplishments in the Latin American market which was not easy to enter. Although the film touches on the obstacles Selena had to overcome to become successful in Latin America it still makes it seem as if Selena was an automatic sensation, particularly in Mexico, where it is known she had difficulty winning people over. This is evident through the one scene in the movie where Selena visits Mexico and whilst there speaks Spanglish to reporters without any repercussions as later on a newspaper calls her the “genuine artist of the people.” Yet, it is no secret that at the beginning of her career the language barrier between Selena and her Mexican audience posed an issue as she was derided for using an interpreter to communicate with the Spanish-language media (Paredez 204).…

Como Agua Para Chocolate, directed by Alfonso Arau, is a film that uses the magical realism literary element. There are many examples of this element in "Like Water for Chocolate" . Several examples are showcased throughout the film of magical realism. Most importantly, Tita's recipes have weird effects on the people who consume them when people eat Tita's foods, It is as if whatever emotion Tita is feeling when she cooks, gets made INTO her food and then that feeling is then transferred to the eaters of her foods. Other examples of magical realism in the film are how she is getting visits by spirits, and how when she cries, she cries actual "rivers" of tears, so people always tell her to st The main element portrayed throughout the movie is Tita’s transfer of emotion into her cooking. Tita was forced to suppress her emotions because her strict, controlling mother did not allow her to love another and made her stay home to take care of her until her death.…

Cabeza De Vaca walked through swamps, deserts, and mountains, learned four different Native American languages, and was a slave to not-so-savage savages for over four years. He was a Spanish Conquistador who left Spain in 1527 to establish colonies in the New World, but as he was entering the Gulf of Mexico his ship was blown off course. Cabeza and his crew left the ships to look for treasure inland, but when they came back their ships were gone. They melted their weapons and made rafts in an attempt to sail to Mexico, but they drifted out to sea, and only one made it back to shore. Cabeza and his fellow survivors were captured by Native Americans, and after over four years of slavery in 1532, they escaped to Mexico City. What did Cabeza De…

There are many differences and similarities in the book and movie Our America. The book and the movie Our America is a story about two best friends, both teenagers named LeAlan and Lloyd. They went throughout their neighborhood recording everything that happens in their daily life and what happens in their neighborhood on a daily basis. The reason it is called Our America is because they want to show the readers “their America” in the ghetto. I think that the book and the movie version of Our America have more differences than similarities.…

Since this film is a futuristic film about the use of the findings from the Human Genome Project, this film is warning us about the possible misuse of the new genetic information. Geneticists are an important job in the film because after one second, the blood is being tested and geneticists can determine your life and future. This determines how long your life will be and what diseases you may face, but not how happy or what you will face in life. It is different from a fortune teller. First, Cristina rips up the money Mario sent from Canada for no reason other than her pride. Alfredo, Mario’s friend, makes a comment to Cristina about her affair and how Mario will react. This comment reminds her of how the villagers believe that she is only with Mario for the money. This causes Cristina to rip up the money, which she could have otherwise used for Vitto. The money is originally for her son to purchase new clothes for the winter months. Now, because of Cristina’s impractical and inconsiderate actions, Vitto will no longer receive that money for new clothes. Vitto’s well-being and needs should have been put first before her pride. Next, Cristina takes her infidelity to a new level as she tries to escape to Canada, with the man she had an affair with. When Cristina is speaking with Luciano in Rocca Secca, she mentions going to America. Cristina says, “Maybe we’ll run off to America together […] Who’s joking? America’s a big place. No one would ever find us there” (Ricci 65). She is now admitting to her infidelity, with the German soldier she is seeing. Cristina tries to escape the results of her mistakes and attempts to erase the memory of her actions. Cristina’s choice to run can be seen as her inability to cope with the effects of her sin and the hope that she can erase any negative actions by ignoring them. She is hopeful to be able to start over where no-one knows her and cannot judge her. In turn, Cristina no longer has to see what others see in her. She leaves her poor father behind who is bedridden because he has a broken leg. One hopes Cristina will redeem herself by caring for her father, who is now in need of help. Instead, Cristina runs off with a man, who is not her husband, without any regard for her father and her son. Once again Cristina is only thinking of herself instead of her family.
