Co-Dependency Research Paper
As we go through our lives we form many friendships and relationships. Relationships allow us to grow and learn more about ourselves and life. Each has the potential to enhance us, no matter how short or long. During the course of the relationship it will be tested by difficult situations, disagreements, frustration and maybe even anger. This is where compromise and communication can be a great tool to find balance. If you find yourself avoiding certain areas of conversation because you are worried about the other person and how they might feel or act, you might be in a co-dependent relationship.
Co-dependency is sometimes referred to as a “relationship addiction,” because some people may find themselves repeatedly attracted to toxic relationships.

They are called partners because being in a relationship is very much a partnership. If one partner is not doing their share of the work, then a resentment will form. A relationship is really no different than a business relationship, if one is doing all the work while the other sits back and does nothing the business will eventually fail no matter how great the payoff. Sometimes we underestimate the importance of communication. In relationships between two people, they find themselves in a place of comfort and familiarity. This causes one to think that because they are close and they can finish each other sentences and understand each other better then anyone else, life is perfect and there will never be any need to work on how to communicate. This façade can cause conflict and mask that fact that their communication is poor.…

In the healthiest of environments, people advance from ‘relationship’ to ‘engaged’ status because two people have mutually acknowledged each other, have common understandings, and act with the other person’s concerns in mind. A relationship, be it for marriage, friends or business, requires a domain of actions and an assessment that your partner is worth trust because they act with the intention to take care and not betray shared concerns. One of those elements is the interpersonal communication between the people in the relationship. When communicating effectively, there is a behavioral coordination that results from the coupling between two people in such a way that the relationship can limit the drift of day-to-day life, and move with effective communication practices that will address fundamental concerns.…

After reading Close Relationships Sometimes Mask Poor Communication, I feel like this article gave great examples on how love ones can easily misunderstand each other. In a couple of studies, researchers have shown that for many people, couple communication skills with each other aren’t as strong as they think they are. Sometimes what we say can easily be taken the wrong way. For example, my fiancé and I often have misconnections. I think it’s very easy to have miscommunication, or not understand exactly what someone is saying if you’re already not agreeing with someone.…

Relationships is what keep human beings connected, its one of the basic necessities of survival. There are many different types of relationships, however all of them require at least some form of commitment, understanding, and effort. The book “Real Communication: An Introduction” by Dan O’Hair and Mary Wiemann serves as a foundation to better ourselves in communication as well as relationships. I will be using the movie “Pineapple Express” (2008) produced by Judd Apatow and Shauna Robertson (IMDb), as an example of an Interpersonal realtionship. The story line focuses on Dale Denton a Process Server who is addicted to Marijuana and fellow drug dealer Saul Silver a gentle and compassionate young man. The movie follows the journey of these two acquaintances that develop an unlikely strong friendship through struggles in the face of danger. In this paper I will argue that Perception, Interaction appearance theory, and interpersonal communication are some of the most important factors in the process of creating and stabilizing relationships. To prove my argument I will discuss the effects of Interaction appearance and the relationship stages as it applies to the film.…

Soft addictions can sometimes strain your relationships. For example: last year, my best friend planned her wedding. Everything was perfect until her fiancé got cold feet. They decided to plan the wedding at a later time. But she was very disappointed and started to stress about the situation. She turned to shopping as her way out. This became her soft addiction. It caused a lot of tension between the couple when the bank statements arrived because she had spent all of their savings. Now not only do they not have their savings, but they can’t plan their wedding like they want to. My friend went into a deep depression, but never stopped spending money. Eventually, this soft addiction of hers put a strain on…
