Executive Summary China National Offshore Oil Corporation is a mega government owned company. The company is the largest offshore crude oil and natural gas producer and seller in the People’s Republic of China. The company was established in 1982 and listed its assets in the Hong Kong and New York stock market in 1999. The company mainly operates in three business areas, including oil and gas exploration and exploitation, production of refined oil and gas, and oil related down-stream products. The company has competed in the both domestic and international market since the very beginning of its establishing. The each generation of leaders has worked hard on building an internationalized corporation. They are improving the company’s global presence and competitiveness through R&D, finding new energy, and acquisitions in order to improve its level of technology. Nowadays, in addition to in the domestic market, CNOOC has spread its business into foreign areas, such as Southeast Asia, Middle East, African countries, European, and North and Latin America. On the way of expanding, CNOOC is facing to various threats from both domestic factors and foreign challenges. In China, CNOOC has mainly two competitors – CNPC and Sinopec. Three companies mainly compete within producing and selling mid- and down-stream products. In the international market,
