Be able to assess and plan for personal professional development | 1.1 Explain the importance of continual self-development in achieving organisational objectives1.2 Assess current skills and competencies against defined role requirements and organisational objectives1.3 Identify development opportunities to meet current and future defined needs1.4 Construct a personal development plan with achievable but challenging goals | It is important as a manager and leader to develop yourself within your role personally and within the organisation, both will gain from this. Within the modern world skill sets are updated and change constantly, The work force changes and it is very important to be able to manage and lead people with confidence and current practice and not fall behind the current skill sets expected both from staff above and staff below. Personal development is needed for organisations to develop from within and to run efficiently, goals to be met and standards to be kept current.Assessing my current skills against my current role and objectives, first i need to look at the role requirements and objectives. My role requires me to teach and develop leadership, coaching and motivation within the training teams at the training centre and to hit the main objective to improve instructional ability. To do this i use my experience having done the role of an instructor many times before. Understanding leadership and performance psychology is also key, the ability to coach and teach this to the instructors and develop them to be able to reach the organisation goal, to improve the instructor teaching/coaching ability.Assessing my skills and competencies against my role, i felt my experience after 24 years in the Army and reaching the rank of Sergeant Major is evidence enough for this.     I became interested in a career in teaching and coaching sports through my part time job in the British Army’s University Officer Training Corps (UOTC). I have been part of the UOTC for 3 years, where I have learnt about the Army and what is required to be an Officer, both physically and mentally. Through this training I have gained the equivalent of a CMI Level 5 Award in Management and Leadership (QCF).
