Clifford's Argumentative Essay: Santa Claus
I personally do not agree with neither Clifford nor James completely. I believe that Clifford presents a better argument by saying that we need sufficient evidence for a belief, but I do not completely agree with this statement. There are many circumstances where the general population and myself are satisfied with believing without any sufficient evidence. One example of this is Santa Claus. For millions of children, including myself, who grew up in Christian homes, the myth of Santa Claus is one that requires no proof. Every child stays up on Christmas Eve hoping to hear reindeer on the roof in anticipation of Santa bringing Christmas presents.     I do believe that in most cases it is wrong to believe on something without gathering enough information and evidence on the subject matter. For example, if someone was murdered and the police arrested someone who was at the scene of the crime, it would be wrong to accuse him and believing this person committed the crime without investigating and looking for evidence that indicates he was the culprit. So, I agree with Clifford based on this example.
