My name is Mahfuzah Mustapha 22 years old , I’m from Kelantan . i just continued my further study in University Technology Tun Hussein Onn (UTHM) major in mechanical engineering . now have 8 week I at UTHM for this semester I have take about 13 credits hours but excluding this subject is English Foundation I have to take this due my MUET result is below band 3 . My English foundation class is in section 17 and class lecturer is Mr. k.Bhaskran . in Malaysia our second language is English . Second language is known as the language that we learn after our mother tongue. It is the secondary option of the individual. People learn second language for multiple purposes; to communicate with people of different ethnic, to get job, to feel easy to live in strange country or environment, to learn foreign culture and lifestyle etc. And the most important that all subject for mechanical engineering student to take is in english language However, my second language –English is the most the most difficult to learn in a short period of time and i got C in my SPM and Band 2 in MUET .

I moved to an environment that was totally different from the one I came from. I knew that this would be my biggest hurdle I would have to overcome. I sat in corner of the class room and felt shy to speak with friends and teacher because I can’t frame a good sentence to express my problem. But teacher help me in each and every step of my problems that I faced. In middle of the semester, I understand more English and I started asking question regarding my problems to my teacher; the problems were solve in clear and effective way and I handle easily. I came to know while I learn English everything will be possible and easy if we keep on working with full of interest.

In my experience one of the best ways to learning is speak with your friends ,writing in blog and read loudly. I am not really good writer and reader because I speak and think in Malay. When I have a problem I talk and discuss with friends and teacher to know the correct answer and when I know the answer I keep on working on it for my experience in future. In addition, Class discussion became good source to learn lots of different idea to express the thought. I am very much sure if we give full concentration with interest on it we can definitely, learn lots of vocabulary and become a good writer and speaker.

In class sir always go through one by one to make us to speak in English and make us comfortable to speak whoever sometime our English is broken but he always help us to sepak inn correctly . for 8 week i have learn a basic English such as Verbs: The Heart of the Sentence . how to use it in sentence and recognize it. Sir also encourage us to do writing at least 1 paragraph about our life in a day it’s like diary to fix writing and spelling skill. Because In mechanical engineering we must do report progress after we make project and lab . I like this English class more than English class I have taken in my secondary and diploma . “practice make perfect” .

It is an awakening, a revival, and the beginning of a wondrous journey. This was my first day in United States, I felt lonesome and desolate, these emotions were just like a monster that destroyed all my positive thoughts. Language and culture differences made me nervous and frustrated, and also hindered me from being able to integrate into the new environment. I was reticent and apathetic when I first entered school and since I don’t talked a lot, only a few classmates wanted to be close to me. I wanted to have more friends, but I didn’t know what to do so I waited for people to come to me. Apparently later, nobody came up and made friend with me. I realized that waiting was not helpful, stepping up and talking to people could eventually benefited me more than any other things. So I started to open myself to people around me and be affable, communicative, and helpful to them. Gradually, my personality became more outgoing and enthusiastic, some people liked to talk to me and some even wanted to share their ideas, opinions to me. My life is becoming interesting and exciting, everyday I get to know various people and enrich myself by learning from them. My experience of language and culture was just as my social life where I afraid to talk and ask. It was unacquainted in the first time when I asked question to a person in the street. But several times of trying and practicing helped me to be more accessible…

‘Neptune Gourmet Seafood’ is worth $820 million, is the third-largest North American seafood producer and is believed to be the most up market player in the $20 Billion seafood industry. Neptune has done everything in terms of their quality and technology for improved, efficient & sustainable production. Therefore, living up to their tagline, ‘The Best Seafood on the Water Planet’. In spite of having the best quality produce and substantial market share, the company is facing inventory problems. The company has purchased six new Freezer Trawlers, thereby increasing their original level of production in threefold, from what it had been a year ago. The company’s sales executive Rita Sanchez suggests that the company must reduce their prices by 40% to 50% and sell the lower priced goods as a new brand, thereby reducing the excess levels of inventory. Neptune’s marketing director Jim Hargrove was unhappy with the idea of slashing their prices since, there were chances for the company to lose their existing customers and it cannot afford to have a fall in their revenue levels, as sunk costs have gone up and there is an increase in competition. Instead, Jim suggests that there be a 10% discount given on the finished goods as the discount rate sounds more realistic and there would be no misrepresentation to the existing consumers about the sudden fall in Neptune’s finished goods. Neptune’s COO Bernard Germain wonders whether Neptune should target a new geographical market viz. South and Central America.…

Specific educational experience I encountered was when I started school here in a traditional class room, it was very difficult for me to comprehend what my instructors was teaching and also for them to understand me because of my accent. My fear was how to succeed in my education when I don’t understand the classroom lectures. I am even too afraid to ask questions fearing that they will not understand me or even laugh at me. I am fine studying my textbook at home but it is not enough as major and important points are highlighted in the lecture notes. So my first step in addressing this fear was to meet with my instructors after class and tell them my problem. Second step was to use the learning resources available at the college and attended series of passport classes for international students. This tutoring classes and one on one session with most of my instructors took all my spare and family time but it did pay off at the end of the semester with good grades. These resources helped me to overcome my fear,…

Connie rejects the role of daughter, sister, and “nice” girl to cultivate her sexual persona, which flourishes only when she is away from her home and family. She makes fun of her frumpy older sister, June, and is in constant conflict with her family. Her concerns are typically adolescent: she obsesses about her looks, listens to music, hangs out with her friends, flirts with boys, and explores her sexuality. She takes great pleasure in the fact that boys and even men find her attractive. Connie has cultivated a particular manner of dressing, walking, and laughing that make her sexually appealing, although these mannerisms are only temporary affectations. She behaves one way in her home and an entirely different way when she is elsewhere. Her personality is split, and when she is at home, her sexuality goes into hiding. However, Arnold Friend’s arrival at her house forces her two sides to merge violently. In a way, Connie is not fully sexual until Arnold’s intrusion into her home—until then, her sexuality was something outside of her “true” self, the self that she allowed her family to see.…

Since Spanish was the only language I knew since it was the only language spoken in my household. I entered Elementary School insufficient in the English language and due to my hesitance to speak in class ; I was put into the Speech program. A program designed to teach children to pronounce, articulate, and enunciate words in the English language. I hated the unwanted attention my language barrier brought towards me. One day as I was called on to read a page from a short story named "Frog and Toad Are Friends" as I read ; I recall blushing in embarrassment due to my peer's ongoing laughter on how funny I pronounced the words. My body became tense my face burned more as time passed. When I felt like I couldn't take the humiliation any longer I stood up and walked out the class. My teacher soon followed after me and offered her time to listen to me vociferate my anger. After listening to my rant she smiled, patted my head and said. "I know it's hard but if you work hard you will graduate from the program and perhaps be better than your peers." This statement motivated me to be the best student possible. I practiced daily my handwritten phonics flashcards, read various books to augment my vocabulary, and practiced on my own my presentation/ social skills. By the end of the year, I flourished demolishing my timidness. I began participating regularly in class, had one of if not…

They let the people suffer, but let themselves go free.” Class is a group of people usually large who have similar economic or social position in the society based on their wealth, property, income or power in the political and economic sphere. Hagen stereotypes upper class as those who have no regards for others suffering. Furthermore, form him law is made for people belonging to the middle and lower class, but not for the upper class. Bureaucrats and politicians, one of the parts of the upper class are often found breaking laws,…

Above all, language barrier was the biggest issue. First a few weeks, I was like a breathing statue who could not talk. I blushed like a tomato even before I opened my mouth. It was not only because of my poor English but also because of my lack of confidence. The first day in College of Marin, the lecture sounded like, "Let's,, blah ..you.. and blah blah.." From the next day, I recorded the lectures and listened to them at home. Also, I used to "draw" the teacher's cursive note on my notebook and spent time at home to figure out what it meant. At night, I watched movies like Spider Man with English subtitle and dictionary beside me.…

I remember when I first came here, I only knew some words of English, and I barely can talk to anyone. However I was too self confidence with my English, Because I learned some of simple word everyday words in China. Such as Hello and thank you. When I moved to America, it was in the month of August, The school quarter had already halfway through. Which was a very bad news for me, because even for the local student, starting school at the middle of a semester is not easy. Not to mention me as a English learner and had no community experience with the people from other country. I remember in my first day of school here. Because, I am a new student here, the office sent a Chinese student as translator with me to walk around and familiar with the school. After few minutes walk, she took me to my first classroom, then she left. After the moment she left, I was standing outside of the classroom and couldn’t move. I was feeling very helpless and lonely. With the noise voice in the background, hearing people speak the language that I don’t know. I was standing there and didn’t know what to do. I can feel each eye in the classroom was staring at me, laughing and talking about me with…

The months went by and it was pretty good, I would go to class, try my best to do what was expected, and just blend in. But one thing was still hard since I couldn’t talk I wasn’t able to make friends, and no one really reached out to me. In the first week or so some people did try to talk to me but as soon as I would say that I didn’t speak English they would leave, I mean I don’t blame them, we wouldn’t be able to really do anything, the most we could probably stare at each other’s face, but that wouldn’t really make us friends. That is why I always try to include someone new because I myself was in their shoes before, so I try to be as caring and friendly as…

The problems with English during my kindergarten years started the cowardice of speech that plagues me constantly, yet it also gave me the opportunity to realize that my language barrier could also be something to take advantage of. For example, if there is ever a job that I need, the employer would be more attracted to the idea of a person that can speak two languages. The isolation that occurred in middle school caused me personality and social problems, yet it also gave me the chance to gain a bit of independence and knowledge of how society works. The difficulty that came along with high school and how easy it is to procrastinate in such an environment can easily make me feel overwhelmed, but all the wonderful knowledge that came with incredible teachers and the lesson of growth mindset will help me for future years to come. The smallest actions I take constantly cause numerous paths to unfold beneath my feet, but I will eventually walk on the right path that my identity as a student has led me to with special…

Despite my efforts to trying to learn English over the short summer break, I barely could speak anything. By the first day of school, I only knew how to introduce myself with verses I had memorized. I was very anxious because I was so new. I felt as if everyone were staring at me because of my complexion and more stressed by the fact that I didn’t understand anything people were saying. And the food; it was so different. I was like a newborn baby, learning everything over again.…

Then, that summer I started to attend an English course. My mother chose it for me. But that course had just been established; it had only two teachers and five classes. I do not know why she picked up for me, but she said that it was the best course and director of that school is highly educated person. Next, I did some tests and started to attend that teacher’s class. Although he was director of that school, he was very open-minded person and he was giving us many advices about how to learn English. His lessons were very easy to understand and increased my interest in English. When I finished that course, I was happy choosing that course because by studying there, I learned lot of things. Sometimes I see my notes which I wrote down when I was taking that course. Then I understand that there are still many things to learn from his lessons.…
