Television shows are really common in the United States besides radio. I like to watch television to keep myself updated with what is going on in this universe. Many people watch television to be informed about what’s going on in the world, for entertainment to let time go by, and entertainment for children to learn from educated channels. But not many find only television as a source they use the internet when not near a television.

Keeping up with what is going on in this world is mainly thru television. I know I keep up with weather, war and other important information that are televised through on air. Anytime an important issue comes along the television will be sure to air it to let us as Americans know what is going on. Many advertisements are also advertised on air to get people want to get up while lying in bed to go out and buy things that are being advertised. Many advertisers use television because it is nationwide and will be seen all over the universe where ever there are televisions. Another reason why television is so important is entertainment when many people have company for a special holiday, or just because to have them around. It’s many of things that keeps you and your family occupied while watching television and also to keep updated to your surroundings. It is true that “television entertains no issue that cannot be personified”(Seducing America.) Unfortunately, television must focus on what can be personified in order to retain the attention of its audience. It took longer for people to communicate and as a result took longer for things to change. In the current media climate, nothing is slow and the news is always changing because the internet allows Americans to keep in contact with the rest of the world. The beauty of it, is that as a human race we are more connected than ever. However, with all good things comes some evil.…

The ability to be creative is an important factor in the development of a young child's mind. By sitting down and watching TV for a couple hours, the child is entertained, but is also not thinking. Information in spoon-fed to them, so when it comes time to read a book in school, some can have a hard time grasping ideas. They are so used to having images flash before them to provide understanding; they have trouble moving their eyes side to side to gather the information for themselves. With the TV in front of them, supplying amusement, they may never stop to think that putting a puzzle together, or reading a book could also be fun. They could actually become dependent on this one source of fantasy, and never bother to create their own. As the child grows older, it is less likely to put effort into playing with other kids, or taking up a hobby.…

According to an article posted on Kids Health from Nemours, How TV Affects Your Child, “The first 2 years of life are considered to be a critical time for brain development.” The article goes on to say, “TV and other electronic media can get in the way of exploring, playing, and interacting with parents and others, which encourages learning and healthy physical and social development.” (Kids Health-For Parents, 2011) These learning programs, as well as certain cartoons, have been produced to maintain some form of balance between the advantages and disadvantages of watching television. These examples are learning new languages, listening skills, arithmetic reasoning, safety precautions, and sharing. Watching cultural programs, such as the History and Discovery channels, are also great resources to help instill better life qualities in children. These channels allow children to explore new worlds and cultures that they may have limited access to in their everyday lives. In addition, these educational programs also allow children to stay current with events that are taking place locally, as well as around the world. Television also provides children, as well as adults, with real-time and up-to-date information on situations that may be about to occur or take place in the near future.…

First of all, there is the information that I can absorb from television. Daily news, for example, has a lot of information that I never know about and reports a lot of incidents which happen around the world such as America sends army and air force to Iraq and catches its president, by the way, we can learn not only information but also about different societies, cultures, and customs I can not learn from news such as some strange traditions of a small city that I have never heard in China or another small country in the corner of the earth. There are a lot of different shows that are directed to children, but not all of the shows are age appropriate. The ratings along with the content can help with deciding what children should watch. After a long, hard day of school and work, I trudge up the stairs to my apartment. As I approach the door, I can already hear the mumbles of the television. I open the door and am not surprised to see my sister on the couch, hand on remote, flipping through channels. I am now accustomed to this picture. My sister could be crowned couch potato queen. She watches television day and night--so much that my cousins and I now refer to her as the Human TV Guide. She knows what's on at a specific time on a specific channel. She has the channels of different stations of different areas memorized. She could tell you what channel MTV is in Torrance. She could tell you what channel USA is in Rowland Heights. She could tell you what channel TNT is in Fullerton. My sister has…
