City Council Persuasive Speech
Fighting for the “right to run.” The SHADY games being played. Folsom…. obviously we’ve hit a nerve! This is a MUST READ AND SHARE! I’m shocked to see how far the political in-crowd will go to intimidate challengers running for City Council. Following the 2014 elections, the Chamber of Commerce Political Action Committee “BizPAC” & associates filed two identical FPPC (Fair Political Practices Commission) violations against both Jennifer Lane and myself. With statements like “Mr. Gaylord’s a seasoned politician” and “Mr. Gaylord demonstrated complete disregard for the law.” It’s a clear example of how special interest groups like BizPAC are high-jacking Folsom’s political process, and are determined to keep the "old guard" in!

I firmly believe this effort only proves just how successful our grass roots campaigns were, considering I nearly beat Miklos by 1%! It looks like BizPAC is gearing up for another slander campaign in 2016. So, in the interest of transparency, after speaking with the FPPC, I’m taking this to social media to inform both BizPAC, & their cronies that I will not be

The Chamber and its BizPAC have historically run the political show in Folsom and this is how they do it. They finance the incumbent leaders using special interest money, while intimidating challengers and squeezing them financially to control the process, all in the name of protecting small business! In fact, there are very few small businesses protected; see for yourself where the Chambers BizPAC spends the monies! The numbers are public and easy to …show more content…

For instance, Rezko and “other businessmen involving public facilities” (Morey) seek out politicians, to grant them permits. The corporations charge double but the rest they keep for themselves. This is how many of elected officials gain corporate funding. The corporation is really the controls behind the congressmen while he is only a “figurehead” (Vives) for the company. The argument facing corporate sponsorships in campaigns is that this helps to keep normal people from sponsoring the politicians in return for job positions. Politicians promised jobs to people that generously donated money to their campaign and strongly represented the nominee. This was somewhat working until a president, “Grover Cleveland, was shot from a deranged campaign…

A Political Action Committee (PAC) is a committee that campaigns for or against a political candidate or legislation. In 1971, the Federal Election Campaign Act went into effect, prohibiting corporations and labor unions from contributing money from their treasuries to a political campaign. Under this act, they were also forbidden to provide any “in-kind” services to any candidate. A PAC is considered a separate unit of a corporation with its own treasury, so any individual wishing to contribute is permitted to.…

Corporations “predominance in lobbying policy makers” is a powerful instrument, making sure to be heard in the political field to protect their own interests. Hudson recognizes lobbyists to be part of pressure groups interested in what government politicians do for my business. When corporations lobby they effect the economical, social, and political composition of how Congress may vote for a particular bill on the floor. Also, lobbyist groups are not on level ground, large businesses have more money than small ones, small ones have more money than start ups, and start ups have more money than non – profit social programs. The individual voter has no chance; true democracy is a dream, only when a large group of individual voters protest are they heard.…

PTSD or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a psychiatric disorder that can occur following the experience or witnessing of life-threatening events such as the military combat, natural disasters, terrorism incidents, or any major tragedy. This is common in the life of veterans and is the leading cause of suicide among veterans. A VA patient who survived in Baghdad shares his experience with PTSD and explains how he knew he had this disability. Many veterans speak out about this issue and describe their continuous anger, alcohol addiction, and constantly wanted to fight. They usually feel very isolated and distant from their loved ones. One patient states, “PTSD involves rocketing into extreme states of stress re-activity; in the form of terror, rage, and uncontrollable impulses, and plunging into equally extreme states of being shut-down—exhaustion, emotional numbing, despair, and dissociation”. PTSD is about having fear and anxiety, allowing veterans to rage with anger and different emotion. There are many factors to PTSD, which affects others in different ways; or example, using video games to keep them occupied, spending money due to the lack of impulse control because of changes in their brain, and even not obtaining another job.…

    Town Council Speech

    • 4 Pages

A meeting of a local democracy in action where the voice of the local townsfolk take prominence and the council serves to address the desires of the town. The council, driven by a deep desire to serve, is faced with the task of making all of the towns serious financial decisions. They do this with a high degree of efficiency, allotting specific time slots for guests speakers and presentations, as well as by closely following a pre-planned agenda. During these meetings, order is paramount. As when order is lost, democracy begins to break down. For accountability purposes, all guest speakers must identify both their names and addresses when coming up to the podium. In addition, the pre-planned time slots serve to ensure that speakers have adequate time to plan their speech rather than embarking on impromptu overzealous tirades. The council’s dedication to order, efficiency, and service greatly facilitates the local democracy in its function. Ensuring that it is by, of, and for the people. The key member of the council, town manager Jeff Bridges, is a full-time paid employee whose whole career is dedicated to the service of the town and council. He handles the town’s finances and implements the important policies agreed upon by the council. His full time service to the town is indispensable, without which the budget would likely be in disarray. To see a true democracy in action…
