Circle Time Analysis
GO! SPEER! GO! GO! SPEER! GO!
Even though we have been singing throughout our entire Circle Time activity, this is our actual song time.
Our room is called S.P.E.E.R., which is an acronym that stands for Special Education Enrichment Room. We sing songs written for and dedicated to all of us.
We have a personalized song book which is made up of songs that Ms. Mel has created from popular tunes but in which she has changed the lyrics to specifically use the names and interesting quirks of all of her participants and staff.
The songs are all preceded by a number. There are songs 0 through 67. There is a jar with numbered popsicle sticks. A participant will pick a stick and their chosen song is the one that will be sung. Everyone present

We have gotten our day off to a good start. YAY!
Chapter Nine

MEL’S OVAL TIME OVAL TIME
The morning has passed and a nice break of lunch and recess broke up the day. Now the participants are arriving back into the room. They are tired, thinking of recess, and mostly wanting to go home to rest.
This is the time of day which inspired Oval Time. Getting the participants back into a focused mindset to finish out the day seemed to be a daily challenge. More behavioral concerns tended to arise and less cooperation seemed to be the pattern for our afternoons.
My creation of Oval Time was my attempt at addressing this issue. When I first created it, I had no idea how successful it would be or not be. I was simply hopeful.
GRAB YOUR CHAIR, COME JOIN THE FUN, OVAL TIME HAS NOW BEGUN GRAB YOUR CHAIR, COME JOIN THE FUN, OVAL TIME HAS NOW BEGUN
The start of Oval Time is very similar to that of Circle Time. However, it has a bit more of a playful tone to it and a more laid back feel to it. The little rhyme is my attempt at making it seem that way anyway. It is time to grab a chair and gather up. This time we all meet over at the horseshoe

During the rise of Modernism, the world began to approach literature and the complexities of life in a new manner. According to The Norton Anthology of World Literature Vol. F, within this era of new discovery, scientists were also finding that the world does not function the way it appears to: “The most famous of the scientific discoveries of the early twentieth century was Albert Einstein's theory of relativity” (Puchner 10). Einstein’s theory of relativity has been a topic of discussion since its birth in 1905 to many Modernist writers such as e. e. Cummings, William Faulkner, James Joyce, and Robert Frost (Johnson 217). It is not surprising that these creative writers, along with Jorge Luis Borges, were intrigued by this theory. Humans…

Right from the beginning, Twyker places recurring motifs such as spirals and clocks to emphasize time's overarching authority and how we are bound to time. For example in the opening scene of the movie, the audience is exposed to a shot of a large dragon-shaped clock, the low angle that Twyker uses emphasizes the power and consumptive nature of time. We also learn that we are in a race against time and that it pushes us to do extraordinary feats. Twyker demonstrates this through his use of the split screen sequences where Lola and Manni are in the frame and a clock appears at the bottom, this emphasizes the presence of time everywhere and our race against time and how time is consumptive of us. It is through these distinctively visual techniques that Tom Twyker uses to convey time as consuming and influential to all of us, and that we are all in a race against…

Over the course of the semester, the Chorale has sung a combination of Disney and Christmas themed songs for their fall and winter concert. Such songs include God Help the Outcasts arranged by Audrey Snyder, When You Believe arranged by Audrey Snyder, and Carol of the Bells arranged by Kirby Shaw. In The Embers and the Stars by Kohák the intersection of time and eternity is expressed. Kohák has focused on "natural" time, which is to say that time is not just what is expressed by a clock, or with a series of numbers on a clock. "It is, rather, set within the matrix of nature's rhythm which establishes personal yet non-arbitrary reference points." This means that time is not measured in seconds, minutes, or hours but by personal existence and experience. These "reference points" are experiences in your life that are meaningful and you help spatially distinguish points in time. Time as we know it is explained by Kohák as a "construct imposed upon nature's rhythm, subordination and ordering it". He does say that it is a useful construct, but as for the theory of relativity time does not hold up.…

Recess gives children the opportunity to learn social skills that are not able to learn in the classroom. Through play, they improve their communication skills, they practice negotiation and cooperation, and they learn how to be part of a team (Murray, & Ramstetter, 2013). For instance, when children invent games to play at recess, they practice listening and communicating as the rules are negotiated and compromised. They ask questions to get clarification about how to play. Once the rules are set, they practice following them. They learn that they have to take turns and work as a team to accomplish their goals. If a conflict arises, they work on resolution skills in order that the game can continue. Many of the social skills that are needed throughout life are practiced out on the playground at recess. As important as all of those skills are, the benefits of recess extend into children’s physical well-being as…

"It's eight a clock in the morning, and I just rolled out of bed. Today, Thursday is a late start at North Farmington High School. I am wide-awake and ready to start school due to the eight hours of sleep I got last night," said one student. Another student told her story, but the only difference was the day she told her story it was not a late starts. "I feel horrible. I had to wake up at 6:00 a.m. so that I had enough time to shower before school. I fell asleep in my first two classes, and I could blame this on the sleep I got last night; or should I say the lack of sleep- only 6 hours." Students would perform better if school started at a later time.…

Students ask themselves “why does school have to start so early?” on a daily basis without receiving an answer. Usually, teens find it difficult to fall asleep early and get their 8 hours of sleep, therefore the next day they wake up early, and they're tired all day at school. That is a norm for middle and high school students, and it shouldn’t be. School start times are too early, and need to be change to a later time in order for students to get their full 8 hours of rest.…
