The movie, “Lord of the Flies”, portrays how man is naturally good, but can be persuaded in negative ways by someone bad. Jack’s cold, brutish behavior largely impacted all the others. From the beginning of the movie, Jack’s insensitive actions foreshadowed his behavior for the rest of the movie, such as when Simon fainted, and Jack said that he is fine and acted like it didn’t matter. Throughout the film, the other boys on the island were consistently being influenced by Jack’s uncompassionate characteristics. Although Ralph was voted as the captain for the whole group, most of the boys ended up being on Jack’s side and followed his bad habits. Even though Piggy was on Ralph’s side, he was also influenced by Jack. One night, Simon was killed because the boy’s because they thought that he was the beast. When the boy’s all found out, Piggy didn’t believe that what they did was murder, when it really was. In the end of the movie, after Ralph fought with Jack about getting Piggy’s glasses back because they were stolen, one of Jack’s members rolled a boulder and it fell on Piggy, leading to his tragic death.…

Once Gene has maimed Finney, he yells“…Now you know what it is! I did it because I felt like that! Now you know yourself!” said Gene (Knowles 70). James M. Mellard states “The cause of Finney’s fall is not ignorance, not a blindness that just suddenly appears; rather, it is a result of a malice that has been growing in Gene all along-a rivalry , a jealousy, a spite spite that builds in Gene before the fateful jump” (Mellard 75). After Gene sees the limp body of his best friend on the ground, he is unable to process what he has done. He cannot believe he has shaken the branch, this shows that he is unaware of his actions, proving his actions subconscious. However, Gene’s fall from innocence is caused by Finneys good-natured, fun-loving, innocent attitude, which causes Gene to jounce the branch on which Finney is standing. Finney explains his attitude toward Gene and his schoolwork by saying “I didn’t know you needed to study…I didn’t think you ever did. I thought it just came to you” (Knowles 58). Mellard also states “Knowles described Genes jouncing of the limb as a seizure, but which never the less came out of himself, and for which he was responsible” (Mellard 76)Preceding the fall of Phineas he had talked Gene into going to the beach with him, which caused Gene’s first failing grade in his high school career. Phineas’…

Simon In Lord Of The Flies

For quite some time throughout my reading of this novel, Lord of the Flies by William Golding seemed to foreshadow a dark ending; the savagery of the human nature taking over the will of well-mannered thoughts and fundamentality of behavior with no return. Perhaps it was the characters’ slow transition into tribal lifestyle, the curiosity of Simon that led him to a horrific fatality, or even the death of an innocent. Within a multitude of instances, we see a slow transition from civilized manner to a terrible insanity and evil. The boys, young and naïve, attempt to be proper island wanderers and develop what seems to be a rough form of government. Ralph, the protagonist, symbolizes order and civility, while Jack, the obvious antagonist,…

Innocence is destroyed, well-behaved orderly children transform into bloodthirsty, cruel hunters, and murders at the very hands of each other are committed within this novel. Within this story of The Lord of The Flies written by William Golding is a wide variety of characters, one of which sees the correct way for the rest of the group to organize themselves, and often think of useful ideas, yet rarely anyone listens to him and he is frequently bullied by his “peers”. The secondary character Piggy in The Lord of The Flies is the character I feel as if I’m most alike. “Which is better –to have rules and agree, or to hunt and kill?” Piggy is a character who tries to keep the group together and sensible, this is proven a lengthy amount of times…

Over the course of history it was taught through textbooks and actual footage of what occurred, but now in this time period movies have been made to recreate the footage in modern times. Debates over the years has been is history actually being portrayed accurately and if it gives accurate knowledge of the event. Producers of television series and movies of this generation have become the most powerful historians. Movies expose the viewer to possibly see what history was truly resembling, or it can even give a singularity of knowledge. Hollywood created many motion pictures about previous events, but added in things that was not a part in the true event. During 1989 in the New York Times, it was discussed if movies can accurately grasp the understanding of history. Richard Bernstein researched Mississippi Burning stating it showed violence with realistic detail, but it transformed one of the key events of the recent American experience of the civil workers. During The Final Days it was a highly imaginative reconstruction of the end of Richard Nixon’s final presidency, yet the television series showed accurate knowledge on the tense issue of history (Bernstein). The fictional fable of The Boy in the Striped Pajamas created a motion picture of a representation of the time period of the Holocaust. The Boy in the Striped Pajamas accurately represents the Holocaust and what occurred to all the Jewish Orthodox, yet inaccurately represents history with the impossible actions with the overall plot.…
