I have chosen Centerville ISD as the school to complete my Field Experience 1 for this semester. Centerville Elementary has a different setup than the average school. Because of the low population, 1st-3rd grade classes are located in one building. Each class rotates throughout the day to three different teachers. Each teacher teaches two subjects. My mentor teacher, Mrs. Childress, teaches reading in the morning and science in the afternoon. The three teachers create a collaborative environment for the students. The small building has 4 classrooms, 1 is used as a computer lab/library for all the classes.…

A School Excursion, an off school site learning activity, is an opportunity to broaden learning and social horizons whilst adding substance to the curriculum and achieving educational goals. The WA DoE has recognized that school excursions can provide opportunities that expand knowledge, abilities and attitudes, however, learning must be in a safe environment and with off school site activity there is increased risk and it has provided a policy as a support text for its teachers, it provides a platform for the very minimum care expected.…

First, a destination has to be chosen. I have chosen to take the students to the public YMCA. The YMCA is a pretty big place so the students would be in the equipment area of the building. The objective of taking the students to the YMCA is to demonstrate how to properly use particular exercising equipment. By going on this field trip my main objective is to open up the students eyes to the different ways to get in shape and be happy. The third objective of taking the students to the YMCA is having the opportunity to experiment with different equipment that the school does not offer. The second step I would have to take for this field trip is booking a date to do it on. I wouldn’t want to plan this trip during the fall nor winter. I would want to plan this trip during late winter, and the trip would occur during the beginning of spring. I chose to book this field trip in the spring because it will be sunny and warm then. The exact day of the trip is undecided as of right now. But I have kept in mind that a Friday would the perfect day. As for the time of the trip, we would leave the school around 9:30 A.M and return around 11:45 A.M. The third step for planning this field trip is getting transportation to the destination. I’ve came to the conclusion that the students can either ride the bus that will be provided by the school, with their consent. Or the students could carpool with my mentor and other students in the class that have automobiles. The fourth step is permission slips. I would give the students’ parents a lot of time to RSVP with me for the trip. The permission slips would be sent out 2 weeks before the end…

I feel that every student should go out on a field trip of sorts and see what they can. It doesn’t even have to be an educational trip. Just the bonding of students and the professor can form a connection that makes learning new material easier on thousands of levels. There is reason that team building camps and school functions exist. They bring people closer together so that barriers are down and you can take in all information you need about that person, or in the case of school,…
