Christian The Lion Poem
In the Article, “The Wild Life of Christian the Lion” by Tod Olson and the poem, “Wild Home,” by Rebecca Kai Dotlich both had the same theme. The theme for both of the two were about how lions should not be caged up, they should be free to roam around. I know this because in the article, it said that “ Two young men-Ace Brooks and John Rendall-walked into Harrods and saw the lion cub trapped in a small cage.” They means that Ace Brooks and John Rendall felt bad for Christian and felt like they needed to get him out of that cage. Also the article basically said that It would turn into a 500 pound lion with 4 inch razor sharp claws which means he could get really dangerous and possibly kill. Finally, they said that ”But as their plane took off,

Reginald Rose has been a juror before, and he has used his experience to write a play in which he portrays the case of a murder of a boy’s father being put into the hands of people that do not take their responsibilities seriously. One of these characters includes the 7th juror. The author’s use of idiom suggests that in a democracy, there are often citizens that don’t take their role in a democracy seriously. When the writer states, “He’s a bull, this kid. Shoooom. A real jug handle”, (Rose, 2-5)., Rose is conveying his perspective through the 7th juror. The juror’s lack of interest in the case illustrates that there are people in a democracy that have a serious and important role but do not care, and only slack off. Holbrook has a similar…

The theme is that lions should be free. Nothing should hold them back. These lions should not be raised in cages they need to be free so they can thrive and grow and play with other lions and be able to hunt. Then in the text “wild home” by Rebecca Kai Dotlich It says: “grazing in star grass, listening to sunbirds and weavers, joining fellow roamers day and night.” Then it says “They belong under the white moon, free and untethered and wild like savanna skies.” Then in the text “The wild life of Christian the lion” By Tod Olson. It says “By April, the fluff ball had grow into 130 pounds of sheer muscle. He was still gentle. But eventually, he would turn into a 500 pound predator with razor-sharp claws and 4-inch-long fangs. Basking shark by Norman MacCaig is a free verse poem, that might have been written to question the ‘evil’ natures of humans, using sharks metaphorical renaissance for the idea. The narrator introduces this un-intuitive question in line 13, quite bluntly by saying “ So who is the monster? The thought made me grow pale….” MacCaig uses figurative language, syntax, and diction to create this artwork.…

They were given everything possible, unlimited access to their imagination, their hearts desires all in one room, care and nurture but not from their parent. Like many kids at one point they dreamed up a place with no rules, no adults and the want to be free to never grow up is understandable. Even at 10 they are growing up fast going to the carnival alone and asking to go to NY. But the stories endings are much different, in Peter Pan the kids want to go back home to their parent but in The Veldt the children rebel against their parents. In changing the story Bradbury reveals a darker twist to the story. The room embodies their childhood and the lions could represent their anxiety and fear of growing up, so they lash out by having the very thing that scares them kill their…

Instead of being bound by societal and gender values of the early 20th century (and an unsympathetic husband), a panther is physically caged. The bars that trap the panther symbolizes the loss of freedom. He was taken from his spacious natural terrain and shoved into a box so small that all he can do is “pace[s] in cramped circles, over and over” (Meyer 635). Panthers have the entire African savanna to roam so when one is locked in a diminutive pen, it is simply an act of cruelty. Rilke chides the treatment of the panther. He creates an image relating to animals at a zoo. People watch and take pictures but they fail to notice the suffering of the animals. He directs attention to the mistreatment of wild animals (including humans) and the oppression they…

The nice thing about poetry is that it can mean whatever you want it to mean and that meaning can fit with anything that is going on in your day to day life. The poet that I have chosen is Rickey Laurentiis, he is twenty-seven years old and was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. After looking through his poems the one that stood out to me the most was “You Are Not Christ”, not because of the name but because of the meaning.…

In “Attack of the Man Eaters”, and “Meet the Lion Whisperer”, the writers say that there is a tragedy or sad fate for lions. The fate in the “Attack of the Man Eaters”, is the lions had injuries with its mouth that made it hard to hunt and eat. In “Meet the Lion Whisperer”, the fate is once the lions get to big for petting zoos, some get sedated for easy targets for hunting and medicine. From these examples, you can see the authors have compared the lions tragedies in both stories.…

    4. The poem “Icarus” by Irving Layton is a very intriguing piece . The first quatrain follows the traditional english meter ABAB. Whereas, the rest of the poem follows no traditional meter and deviates greatly from being an english sonnet. The poem also differs from a traditional sonnet as it does pertain to the same subject , of love. Instead, this poem is more reminiscent of a narrative poem because it tells a story.…

In all literature, the author is at the forefront of constructing text and all its meaning. The author is tasked with the important duty of ascribing meaning to their text when composing a piece of literature. However, within the process of composition the reader must acknowledge the author’s positionality and experiences in regards to their work too. That is to say, the reader is able to infer the significance of the author’s role as the conveyor of ideas through the author’s experiences, occupation, or idiosyncrasies. Furthermore, this provides the opportunity for the reader to highlight how that position and those experiences influence the significance of the author’s work.…
