Choral Singers: A Subculture Analysis
Choral Singers- This is a subculture that I have been a part of for the majority of my life. From being in the Springfield Showstoppers show choir at the age of 9 to being in the Illinois Music Education Association's All State Chorus, I have always felt like I belonged in this subculture. Everything about performing, whether that be for fun or for competition, I love. There are quite a few different style groups that I have been a part of, my favorite being Madrigals (Renaissance and Baroque style music). This would be a good subculture for me to write about because it's been such a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember.

Volunteers- Volunteers is another group that I am very much a part of. My passion

Although men and women have seemed to use the vocal fry in the past, it appears it is more relevant now than it has ever been, especially in the voices of younger women. The vocal fry has likely been influenced by American media and celebrities using it on the internet and on television. This debate is relevant as a social aspect in that it can be perceived positively and negatively in our culture today. Though it just seems like an unusual way of talking, it may also influence attraction, employment, empowerment, style, and social acceptance. Many American adults are negative about the vocal fry while most youth seem to find it alright. But the overlying issue with this debate is how this may or may not affect young women who use it in American culture.…

Culture is the ways of thinking, acting and the material objects that form a people’s way of life. Within each culture there are many subcultures, which are cultural groups within a larger culture with similar beliefs. Many times, the subculture a person belongs to provide him/her with a sense of identity and belonging. Subcultures are characterized by their origin and the characteristics that define it. While growing up I belonged to many different subcultures, but my main one was my gymnastics competitive team. This was definitely the most influential and time-consuming subculture I was a part of and is considered a special interest subculture. Along with its origin, subcultures also have a set of characteristics that are used systematically and provide one with information. Characteristics include boundary rigidity, language/jargon, values, identifying signs, the degree of attachment and initiation rituals.…

I came here to the United States to further my educational goals. I had always dreamed about becoming a helpful person not only for my family but also for my community since I was a little kid. I have always thought that I am extremely lucky to be given the opportunity to study abroad; hence, I try to make the most of my time here which is spent doing volunteer work. A program in which I spend most of my time volunteering is called Community Emergency Assistance Program (CEAP) that supports those who are not fortunate enough to go to school, or have a place to live. CEAP does not only give me valuable pieces of knowledge and experiences but also helps me understand that there are many people who are still suffering greatly and are desperately in need of our help.…

All throughout school I have participated in many clubs and organizations that have not only molded me as a person, but have helped me to develop responsibility, and leadership skills. Currently I am an active member of National Honor Society, and DECA. Both of these organizations, provided by my high school, encourage leadership, volunteer work, and have high expectations for behavior, and grades. Being in National Honor Society has shown me to continually do for others in need. There are always opportunities to get involved with the community, and even create drives for things like stuffed animals, and blankets for children who are sick in the hospital, and “Care Catties” for cancer patients, which include tissues, water bottles, hard candy, and lotion. DECA is another organization I am involved in at Frenship High School. DECA is a business organization for high school marketing students looking to learn, develop and compete in a competitive event. I have been a member since my sophomore…
