Every year millions of college students ' worldwide graduate from college in hopes of obtaining a position in their career field of choice; however a lot of these students do not have a plan of action to actually help them find their career and achieve their goals. So much emphasis is put on college graduates going out and finding a "job", but little focus is put on helping them find a "career." "A five year career plan is a road map that allows for progress tracking, and development of solutions or alternate courses of action (Crump, 2009)." The article “Are You Deciding On Purpose” about the interview of author, speaker, and counselor Richard Leider really made me think about my life and what I want to do with myself. Leider brings up many great points in the interview and it was an eye opener for me after I finished reading the article. The first thing he mentions in the interview is how people are intimidated by all the choices we have now as career options. Nowadays, there are so many career paths to choose from that it overwhelms people and the decisions that they make. I think this is true for everyone and especially me. I thought about this for a while and I too do not have any idea what I want to do in my life. I have changed my mind many times about what I wanted to do as a career and I always thought about the money. After I finished reading the article, I realized that picking a career path is not all about the money. It’s about whether you enjoy what you are doing because you spend 60% of your entire life working. If I spent 60% of my entire life just working to pay the bills, I would be miserable by the time I’m retired because there wasn’t any satisfaction or fulfillment for me. I still don’t have any clue on what I want to do with my life but reading this article really changed my mind on a lot of things.…
Almost a freshman in college, I only had vague ideas of what I wanted to do until I met people and learned more about myself. I knew I had some flexibility in my decisions; I could make mistakes as I’m only human. Not everyone knows what they want to do right away. That’s perfectly acceptable, figuring out life’s steps one at a time while enjoying the process is what matters. As I pursued pre-business, I learned more about myself and the two concentrations that appealed to me, which lead to my desire to tie in my interests to my career…

Choosing the right job can be quite unchallenging because this is how you prepare yourself for better things to come ahead in life. When I was younger in my teens, I would jump from job to job, until I got married and eventually ended up joining the US Navy. Choosing a major may be a tricky one because you really don’t know if it may follow-up to the right or perfect career as you wanted it. Picking the best career is a tough choice to make these days. There are so many choices, so many different aspects to consider. Money, the job setting, and how a specific job will affect family life. Growing up I thought about many different options, such as being a professional, specifically a marine-biologist, becoming a soccer star, and owning my own bar-club, can show the different areas I have thought about doing. For the time being though I am fairly certain on my current decision to major in Art and becoming a graphic artist. In the future, I also hope to one day own my own place, either a studio or a production company.…
Whenever I was asked what I wanted to do for a career, I never really knew how to answer. There is the strong possibility that I will end up sitting in an office building, grinding away on health care related affairs like my dad; I would not mind that. Maybe I'll shoot for a job at NASA or SpaceX, leading a development program for a new satellite or mission. That is where my heart is currently settled, but as a student just beginning the journey of higher education and subject exploration, my aspirations are ever-evolving. My uncertainty has led to an investigation into new careers and opportunities that are of interest to me.…
You should start thinking about what college you want to go to and what you want to major in. The first major step in looking towards your future is researching careers that fit your interests and abilities. What is so wrong with society today is the fact that everyone is so driven by money. No one wants to face the fact that not everyone will be millionaires when they grow up. When choosing a career, it shouldn’t be about what career makes the most money. It should be about what you enjoy and are very good at. I am an example of being very money hungry. My entire life I wanted to be some kind of doctor so that I could have that nice six-figure salary. As I got older, I realized that life is more than how much money you have in your bank account. It is about being as happy as you can be, and that can all begin with choosing the right career for…

Remember when you were ten years old and your parents asked, “what do you want to be when you grow up?” You’d smile, and without batting an eye, answered doctor, fireman, teacher and so on. But nowadays, you may not be so self-assured. When your professor asks, “where do you see yourself with your career in 5 years?” A worthy answer is often hard to muster. In my opinion, five years may seem like a very long time, but when you understand yourself and have a dreams set, those five years may go by so fast.…
