Childhood Memory
Childhood memory

I would define childhood as a never ending vacation, a rollercoaster ride that never stops exciting and entertaining, making life worth living. But childhood also has its memories that a person would remember when they grow up or probably when they are sharing with their kids about what they cherish the most or what made them realize how beautiful childhood actually was compared to being grown up.
The memory that still makes me rethink about my decision and makes me wish that I could go back in time and reverse it, during my childhood I had a craze for riding bicycles with my friends. During one sunny afternoon, I and my best friend George went for a ride in our neighborhood. Enjoying the lovely weather and scenery, we were following our usual routine for weekends which was to go around and just talk and enjoy the time together, but one day something different happened. It was 4 in the evening and it was getting a little cold outside so we decided to have a small race before we could head back home and watch some television. We decided our starting and finishing points and after a long debate we decided whoever wins would get an extra pack of chips during the television time.
So after we got to the starting point we both were eager and ready to beat each other and finally we took off, George being the more fitter was in the lead from the start but I did not give up. Teasing away and making fun of me George was certain to win the race when something very shocking happened. Without knowing George accidently ran on top of a small puppy across the street and in doing so he fell down from his bicycle and looked badly injured. I could not help but to go for the finish because I wanted to win.
As I got back to where George had fell and started laughing at him for loosing then suddenly I realized George was crying not because he was injured because the puppy badly wounded. I freaked out and had no idea what to do so we decided if we go and tell someone we might get in a problem so we decided to run away to get back home. After we got home I was so scared to even tell my mom what caused George to fall and lied that he fell because of a stone that was on the road and we were not racing.
I could not sleep and I decided to tell my mother what had actually happened. My mother was upset and she told me that instead of wanting to win just for an extra pack of chips I should have tried to save the puppy and also take care of George earlier. That night I learned my lesson that winning is not everything, sometimes loosing makes you a better winner.

The concept of childhood has been around for many of our lives, but it wasn’t in the lives of some of our ancestors. Childhood as an idea is something that has progressed and changed over time. Rather than childhood be biologically based like infancy, it is instead a socially constructed idea. Postman, in his 1994 publication, The Disappearance of Childhood addresses where the origin of childhood came from and how it has developed over time and changed to adapt depending on the country and what kind of society exists at that point, along with many more factors. The idea of childhood was created by the Renaissance and was considered to be one of its greatest inventions, if not, the most humane.…

When I was all the way at the top of the hill, I told Marino to go. He layed back on his snow tube, I gave him a big push, and he was on his way. My brother started out really fast down the hill and he was loving it. Then I noticed something. It was not a good thing. My brother ws changing directions. “Oh shit that is a big tree.” I took off. I was running as fast as I could toward him. He had no control over his direction and was headed for the biggest tree in the woods. There was no way I was catching him so I stopped as he said, “Oh Shit!”. When he said that I thought, how does he know how to swear, he’s only 7 years old. Right at that moment, BOOM! My brother smacked into the tree so hard both of his shoes came off, the tube went an additional 50 feet into the wood, his jacket came off, and he hit his head pretty hard on the tree. I came sprinting down very worried to see my brother lying on the ground. “Marino are you okay? Are you hurt? Tell me what hurts?” He looks at me and smiles, “Can we do that again?” I just looked at him and rolled my eyes. “Does anything hurt?” I asked nervously. “Yes. My leg and head hurt pretty bad.” I suddenly became worried. This was all my fault. If I just stayed down there I could've stopped him from…

It seemed like it was a good day. They announced that my race and my dad’s race was starting soon. so we went to the starting corral. My sister was on the wood structure by the announcers and the finish line. My Dad’s race had just started and he was in first place the whole time. “Pete Kraemer in the front.” Soon, we lined up with our tires against the start gate. “Five, four, three, two, one, Go Go Go!” The announcer screeched. I pulled in front in the first two jumps… BAHM!!! I landed with my tire sideways and I flew off and got run over by bikes like I was part of the ramp. I felt something chalky in my mouth. a nasty taste shot through my mouth that I think was dirt. Soon after, their had been a throbbing pain in my side for days and it felt as if I was hit by a truck. “Are you ok,” I heard.…

Childhood itself is a slightly ambiguous term, and is not a fixed definite period of life. The book “AS level sociology” written by Rob webb, Hal Westergaard, Kieth Trobe and Liz Steel defines childhood as “ a socially defined age status” going on to say that there are major differences in how childhood is defined, both historically, and culturally, similarly, Stephen Wagg says of childhood;…

Alright time to go fast and win. It will be the first in a long time. “Go!” My dad shouted go, and I shifted my weight. Cool winter air blowing into my face was a great sensation that I’ve felt many times before. She was already ahead of me. crap; I have to catch up. So I went into a tucking position with my poles behind me, and putting more force in front of me so it boosted me. I was gaining, but she started to use the same technique as me. I felt like I was being chased by a German Shepard. The turn came up, and this is where I could gain the lead. I turned first so I could grab the inside of the turn. I already knew Santa didn’t exist. At the age when most kids were trying to stay awake all night on Christmas Eve to catch Santa Claus, I was in my bed, anxiously trying to fall asleep so morning would come faster and I could open presents. Unlike most kids my age, I already knew the real story. It was a hoax, a story that parents tell their kids to trick them into believing that if they if they weren’t good, Santa wouldn’t bring them anything. I knew that they, in fact, were the ones putting those presents under the tree and that the child’s behavior had little to do with it. I knew it, but I didn’t tell. I didn’t tell my friends at school, my cousins, or even my mom that I knew the truth. I already knew about the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy. I knew that if you held your face a certain way for long enough, it wouldn’t stay that way, and that you wouldn‘t go blind from sitting to close to the television. When I was about six or seven, I started asking my dad questions...and got answers.…

It was summer, in the year 2004, and my niece came to visit my house. We used to live in the country side, away from town. We were playing around as usual; as it being a bright sunny day. I was a 6 year old boy who was always looking for trouble and something to do, along-side me was my brain storming twin brother and together we cause all sorts of chaos and would get scolded all the time and never listened.…
