Throughout the years, child abuse has been detrimental to our society. "Statewide, the number of deaths attributed to abuse or neglect rose from 95 in 2005 to 170 in 2006, according to the annual report from the Child Abuse Death Review Committee." [Chapman] "Child abuse is causing or permitting any harmful or offensive contact on a child 's body; and, any communication or transaction of any kind which humiliates, shames, or frightens the child. Some child development experts go a bit further, and define child abuse as any act or omission, which fails to nurture or in the upbringing of the children." [Indianchild.com] Neglect is the failure to provide for the child 's basic needs,
Do you believe child abuse is a valid reason why children obey their parents more? Some parents believe that hitting their child makes them more powerful and that the child will be scared of them. The youth in todays day and age are pressured by their parents to follow strict orders and if disobeyed are reprimanded for it. If people were more informed about child abuse, perhaps they would realize that hitting or neglecting a child is not only going to take a toll on them for the rest of their lives, but they might abuse their own children when they 're older due to psychological reasons from when they were beat by their parents. Most parents who beat their children were beaten by their parents when they were children. [Connelly] The history of child abuse goes way back to the 1800 's. "It was not until recent decades that child abuse and neglect have been recognized as serious social problems." [Connelly] Back in the 1800 's, child labor was also considered what we call child abuse today

[Anderson] Child abuse can be taught in school to students to help it get more widespread while they are young. Schools should have guest speakers come in once a month and talk about the dangers of child abuse and if they get abused to tell a teacher. "The best thing to do is to actually try and prevent abuse and neglect in the first place." [Anderson p.2] Child abuse can be prevented by making an anonymous call if seen. Newspapers and television can help make child abuse more public. News channels always have child abuse cases. People should watch them and become more informed and realize how important it really is. Child abuse can be reduced by putting an end to poverty. Children who do not have proper health care often get abused. Adoption laws also need to be tougher. Often, babies or children that are adopted are abused because they are not
