The 1985 Bears super bowl champion team really proves what hard work and dedication can lead to. This win obviously meant a lot to the many men on the field, and for the entire Chicago bears fan base. Coach Ditka put together an almost unstoppable offensive attack and their defensive coordinator Buddy Ryan made their defense arguably the best defense of all time. Proving how much impact the right coaching can have on a team, and also how the Bears could not have won without this superb coaching. Lastly, the struggle, and perseverance it takes to become one of the best teams of all time is unreal. Through the battles of the season the team became stronger and came out on top like true

When it comes to American football, the Super Bowl is the premier game of the National Football League (NFL) in the United States. The Super Bowl is annually the nation’s highest-rated TV programme and the most watched single-day sporting event. A great deal of excitement revolves around the game, the halftime show and the advertisements. The game tends to have high Nielsen television ratings and on average 80–90 million Americans are tuned into the Super Bowl at any given moment (Associated Press, 2007). With consumers more broadband- and wirelessconnected, Super Bowl has become an entertainment and social extravaganza in its own right, and has emerged as ‘must watch’ television. But what happens when the few TV programmes that traditionally attracted millions of people fall prey to competition? Despite the hype surrounding the 2006 Winter Olympics, the Games proved no match for…

This was war! Since its inception seven years earlier, the upstart American Football League (AFL) had fought the National Football League (NFL) for players, fans, television revenues, and respect. The successful new league had won everything except, respect. On January 15, 1967 the first World Championship game against the AFL and the NFL took place. The powerhouse NFL champions the Green Bay Packers against the AFL champion the Kansas City Chiefs. What ended in a 35 to 10 loss to the NFL, the AFL earned its long sought after respect. But the winner that day was not the AFL or even the NFL; it was professional football.…

As I sat down to watch Super Bowl 50, I expected to see the newly crowned NFL MVP Cam Newton to be smiling ear to ear and having a good time with his teammates in his usual fashion. Cam's approach the game, with a sense of fun and lightheartedness, is normally his power. Instead, I saw a very serious Cam with not a smile in sight. At that point, I knew there was trouble ahead; his freedom of emotion may have turned out to hurt him.…

Any Given Sunday and North Dallas Forty, made over 25 years apart, are two of the most famous football movies ever made. Both of these movies focus on an examination of American values as seen through the lens of a professional sport, both on and off the field. Any Given Sunday and North Dallas Forty do indeed have many striking similarities. Furthermore, it seems that both movies try to give a detailed depiction on the corporate mentality of modern day professional football; while at the same time, still working to deliver a traditional, likeable sports flick. Though there is a large time gap between the two films, they have similar messages and much in common.…

With the fourth pick in the 1975 NFL draft, the Chicago Bears selected Walter Payton. Paytons career began with a less-than-stellar performance. In his first NFL game, Walter carried the ball eight times for zero net yards. Although 1975 began with a performance that wasn't worth writing home about, the season finale did. At New Orleans Walter ripped off perhaps the best touchdown run of career, finishing with 134 yards on 20 carries. Walter finished the rookie season with 679 yards and seven touchdowns, the lowest total of his football career. Also, the biggest letdown of his career occurred that season, as Payton was held out of the only game he would miss in 13 seasons. Not because he couldn't play, but because they wouldnt let him. Walter topped 1,000 yards and scored 13 touchdowns in 1976, and was voted the Most Valuable Player in 1977. Chicago went to the playoffs after the '77 season, which led to a 275-yard game by #34, which stood as the best single game performance in the NFL until it was surpassed by three yards in 2000. It was during the years 1976-1981 that the Bears became defined by Walter Payton. Jokes circulated that their game plan was as simple…

One of the biggest disputes in football is determining who is the greatest player of all time at any given position. Naturally, the leadership positions, like the Quarterback, are debated with even more intensity. Joe Montana and Tom Brady are three quarterbacks frequently designated as “The G.O.A.T,” or greatest of all time. Unsurprisingly, the main statistic focused on in these arguments is Super Bowl wins. Until Super Bowl LI, Joe Montana and Tom Brady were both tied at 4 wins, however, the article states “Brady also became the first quarterback to win…

Nearly every Sunday afternoon in fall just about anywhere in Wisconsin you will likely find most people cheering on the green and gold. While watching a game at Lambeau Field is an incredible experience, my Sunday’s revolve around being with my family during game time and watching from the luxury of our own living room. I look forward to this Sunday routine every week: waking up early to attend 9:30 mass at St. Teresa Church, off to the grocery store to stock up on Packer party essentials, and then kickoff begins. By game time the table is loaded with mounds of freshly baked goodies and an assortment of lunchtime snacks. Our Sunday’s best include sporting your desired Packer jersey, my dad and I both support #12 for Aaron Rodgers. I love watching…

Intro: ABC Wide World of Sports use to come on with the words “The Thrill of Victory and the agony of defeat.” There is nothing as exciting as winning. The taste of victory in our lives is sweet. Victory is essential to our health and happiness. Defeat is destructive to our lives, and remaining in defeat can destroy our faith. It is not God’s will for your life to walk in defeat, but it is His will for you and I to rise-up in the middle of Satan’s attacks upon our lives and live in victory.…

It’s the most fun, most competitive, team-oriented sport in the earth. We would do anything to win a game. Ladies love us guys want to be us. Everybody loves the game, people are always playing it, it is the soul of the universe. When you put on the pads, lace up the spikes, and buckle your helmet you walk onto the field and nothing else matters. You will forget if you failed a test, fought with a friend, or lost some money…. Because for the next few hours your day will be perfect. Here’s to touchdowns, field goals, extra points, fumbles, dropped passes, amazing catches, monster hits, interceptions, overtimes, come from behind wins, close games, broken bones, warm days, cold afternoons, rivalries, pick-up games, gallons of Gatorade, endless hours of practice, coaches, teammates, friends, let downs, miracles, but most of all the game, Football, Why? Why do we run back and forth day after day? Hitting and running so hard we ache everywhere. Pushing it so hard we listen to our hearts beat rings in our head, while our lungs desperately gasp for air. Early mornings, late nights, Saturdays and Sundays, endless mistakes, deep bruises, broken bones, and torn muscles and ligaments. We hustle thru it all. Because we live off our adrenaline, because the game frees your soul, because the party after the big win is spectacular, because you are invincible once you step onto the field. A big play could make you smile all day long. The rattling of the crowd, the feel of the ball, the image of the spikes in the dirt, it’s a glory to live by. Because it is possible to hustle hard enough you can leave your worries behind. Sweat is the cologne of our accomplishments, Why? Why should anyone push themselves so hard? Its not for the money, it’s not for the girls, its not for bragging rights, and its not for the fame. We do it because we love it.…
