Chasing Ice Film Analysis

Climate Change Chasing Ice was a very informative documentary on climate change. Environmental photographer James Balog sets up time lapsing camera’s to show how glaciers around the world were changing due to climate change. He sets up cameras in Iceland, Greenland, Alaska and Montana and captures images of the glaciers breaking off, degrading ,and receding. It is very scary to see the glaciers changing so drastically only over the course of a couple months at a time. James Balog sets up a project in 2007 called the Extreme Ice Survey (EIS), it was one of the biggest projects he ever did, they spent up to three years observing and recording the data of the changing glaciers. One main take away I got from this film was that climate change is real and it is happening because there is too much carbon dioxide in the atmosphere or otherwise
I have always heard people talking about climate change and I never really thought anything of it until now. Climate change causes glaciers to melt and all of the runoff water from the glaciers can help contribute to more hurricanes, right now the Earth is facing many hurricanes and this could be the result of climate change and many people aren’t aware of that. If more people were aware of climate change and we put in the effort to try and help prevent it from worsening we could help the future of the world. Another thing that I realized after watching this film was that during the winter climate change doesn’t magically stop because it's cold outside we are still producing the greenhouse gases at an extreme rate. This film was very inspirational, James Balog and his crew dedicated three years of their life to this project to help show us what climate change is doing to the our Earth. I am going to do my part in trying to prevent climate change the Earth is our home and we need to take the time to understand it so that we can guarantee its future. (204
