Character Analysis: Vasco De Nunez Balboa
Dialogue

Narrator: Vasco de Nunez Balboa was part of a poor family which live in the province of Badajoz Province in Spain's South west coast. He was born in 1475 Balbo’s father was a poor nobleman. He served the Lord of Moguer. When he served Lord of Moguer he received all types of training for example Arms training, Hunting,Etc. Balbo owed his creditors from Hispaniola a great deal of money, so he hid in a flour barrel on a boat heading to Darien (which is now Panama) with his dog( Leonico) hoping to find gold and treasures.

Vasco de Nunez Balboa: If you are too loud the sailors could find us and throw us overboard, just wait until we get a little farther.

Narrator: After the ship was far out in the sea he popped out and acted as a sailor. In 1513 Balboa sent the leader Enciso home in chains, then he became in charge. Later on, Balboa became the governor. He wanted to please the King and queen of spain, so he went on an expedition in 1513. He took a group of 190 spaniards and a group of indians to cross the isthmus of Darien (Panama).

Narrator: Balboa and his men found gold and pearls on the pacific coast, the news was spent to spain, so King ferdinand sent a nobleman , Pedrarias Davila to govern the newly claimed land.
Pedrarias became jealous of Balboa so he falsely accused him of treason and had him arrested and sentenced to death.

Pedrarias: This man has committed treason and should be put to death.

Balbo: I have done nothing wrong. Pedrarias: He shall be beheaded with 4 other men that were loyal to him.

Pedrarias: I will have him beheaded in the square in Acia, to show everyone not to commit crimes.

Narrator: So on Jan. 12, 1519, Balbo and four friends were beheaded in the public square of Acia and Balboa was the first european man to see the Pacific
