Chapter Summary From The Legend Of 'Beyond The Vines'
The scene I will be discussing is from the Legend of Korra Book 4 Episode 9 "Beyond the Vines". In the scene, the main protagonist, Korra, confronts Zaheer, an airbender who poisoned Korra. Korra decides to visit him in prison, in order to confront him, to show him (as well as herself) that she is not frightened of him anymore. The entire fourth season focused on Korra’s fears and her struggles in finding her strength after experiencing something as traumatic as poison seeping into her body.

The dialogue serves to indicate how Korra is still frightful, despite the façade she attempts to put on for Zaheer. When Zaheer suggests that he helps her, she is hesitant. She becomes defensive, and blames him for her weaknesses as well as her inability

Charles Chesnut's work, "The Goophered Grapevine" deeply resonates with me, not only for its literary values, but also because it shows deep insight into the complexities of race, identity, and power dynamics in South America. Chesnut's own life experience as a mixed-race man navigating the harsh terrain of racism and discrimination undoubtedly informed his description of these subjects. As a reader, I was impressed by Chesnut's ability to create thought-provoking stories by combining elements of folklore and realism. Chesnut skillfully explores African-American culture and the ways it was used as a means of resistance and survival in the face of oppression through Uncle Julius's characteristics. Chesnut's exploration of the relationship between…

During the rise of Modernism, the world began to approach literature and the complexities of life in a new manner. According to The Norton Anthology of World Literature Vol. F, within this era of new discovery, scientists were also finding that the world does not function the way it appears to: “The most famous of the scientific discoveries of the early twentieth century was Albert Einstein's theory of relativity” (Puchner 10). Einstein’s theory of relativity has been a topic of discussion since its birth in 1905 to many Modernist writers such as e. e. Cummings, William Faulkner, James Joyce, and Robert Frost (Johnson 217). It is not surprising that these creative writers, along with Jorge Luis Borges, were intrigued by this theory. Humans…

One of the comments that I was most interested in when reading the Crime chapter in Solomon’s Far from the Tree book, was the mention of three grand risk factors influence the creation of a criminal. A single-parent family since it might increase the probability of them having a low socioeconomic status. This later translates to a high chance at their child dropping out of school, not attending college, working low paying jobs, becoming substance abusers, and later on becoming single parents as well. Abuse and neglect, which often leads the child towards two paths. One includes depression and self-pity, since they see the world as an unsafe place. The other path is the one in which we would be interested since if influences the child to be aggressive and indulge in criminal behavior since they see the world as a war zone in which they need to fight in order to survive. The third factor is exposure to violence. Living in an aggressive household…

For women of color, it is as if society was against them two times. As if being a woman is not already hard enough, don’t throw race into the picture as well! As this piece was viewed, my mind could hear “Strange Fruit” playing in the background. The struggle of living during such a depressing time is visible in the gaze of Miss Holiday. Ironically enough, since this painting as well as others in the gallery were of African American jazz musicians, I assumed that the artist themselves would also be of African American decent and I was incorrect. This was only odd for the emotion stirred in me by the piece was far too spot. Although many aspects of African American culture is hard to grasp for someone who is not of that decent, Cerny does a…

The Grapes of Wrath is filled with many intercalary chapters that I feel benefit the novel in many different ways. These chapters help develop major themes throughout the novel; one being people's harsh actions towards one another. In chapter seven, an intercalary chapter about an awful cars salesmen who rips off everyone, it justifies this theme very well. The salesman would sell beat up cars with missing parts to farmers who did not know any better. “Take out that yard battery before you make delievery” (p 85). They would even purposely remove parts so that they could make more money in the long run. Without intercalary chapters like this, the novel's theme would not be as developed as it is. These intercalary chapters add so much detail within the novel which help the reader understand more about what is happening in the other chapters as well. In chapters 12, 14 and 15 Steinbeck describes how harshly people treat one another…

The prologue to this play essentially summarizes the entire story. Two prominent families (the Montagues and the Capulets) from the city of Verona are at war with one another. From these households, two people will fall in love, but their “star-cross’d” relationship will end in death. Once these two people die, the families will finally end their bitter feud.
