CHAPTER 5

CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

5.1

Introduction

This chapter will conclude the result of this experiment, whether it has fulfill its objective and the recommendation for future research to get better efficiency in yield of FAME by manipulating the concentration and weight percent of the active metal.

5.2

Conclusion

In this research, the objective are to determine the effect of concentration of KOH to yield of FAME and also to determine the effect of KOH weight percent as loading metal in
OPKS support.

From the result shown in previous chapter, we can see the trend of graph for each parameter which is yield of FAME increase if concentration of KOH/weight percent of
KOH increase. The best KOH concentration that gives the highest yield in this research is
2.0M which gave 27.07% of FAME yield. On the other hand, the best KOH weight percent as loading metal is 20wt% which gave 45.27% of Fame yield. However, both of the result is still considered low compared to result from previous study done which their yield is up to 99%. Nevertheless, with this result, it has open many possibilities to be research as the result has not reach its peak yet. To conclude all the result, this research shows that the effect of loading metal weight percent give more positive impact in terms of FAME yield than concentration of loading metal. This is shown by the difference between the highest results from both objective of the research which are separated by 18.2%.

5.3

Recommendation
In this research, there are several suggestion that can be used to improve the yield

of FAME. First is, the carbonized oil palm kernel shell (OPKS) must be stored in dry places to prevent water content from humid air to be absorbed into it thus reducing the its efficiency. Next, during the impregnation process. The mixture need to stir continuously until it completely dried to ensure all KOH has successfully impregnate with the OPKS activated carbon. For the calcination process, the

In Experiment 9, distillation was used to carry out the dehydration of 2-methylcyclohexanol using 4:1 mixture of phosphoric and sulfuric acid. Gas Chromatography was then used to measure the products. Two products were formed. The theoretical yield of the alkene mixture was 3.914 g. The actual yield of the mixture was 0.73 g. The percent yield for the reaction was 18.65%. Peak A had an area of 0.3 mm2 and a percentage of 4.6 %. Peak B had an area of 6.21 mm2 and a percentage of 95.39%.…

Ideally, the percent yield should be 100%, as this means that you have recovered 100% of that material. A yield over 100% would mean that the substance still has some traces of another material that is adding additional mass. Ex. The iron filings having some sand particles leftover. A yield under 100% would mean that some of the substance was not recovered, it could have been lost (spilled) or found in another substance (not separated completely).…

Yield is the quantity of product in a chemical reaction, the theoretical yield of a reaction can be calculated using mole ratios from the balanced chemical reaction. The actual yield has to be obtained and measured in a laboratory. It may be usual to often find the actual yield to be less than the theoretical yield due to many different factors. This gives rise to the concept of percent yield. Sodium bicarbonate and hydrochloric acid was used in the experiment. The yields of sodium chloride reaction were determined and then compare it to the theoretical yield.…
