The Rise and Fall of Arthur Andersen

Questions for discussion:
1. What do you think was the main reason that Andersen turned away from its core founding identity? How could this changed have been avoided?
2. Do you have any suggestions for how Andersen could have attracted high-quality graduates without offering the high salaries associated with consulting work?

I think the main reason that Andersen turned away from its core founding identity it is because of the aggressive of the owner and employees. Everyone seems do not want to be controlled under the strict rules that Arthur Andersen had made. Because following the rules was such a difficult things and the speed of earning money is also slow. But earning money and other thing won’t come to use suddenly it really takes times. I think the only way to avoid is the owners should have a firm conviction on rules. They must always think that what was their primitively goals and not being lost one’s faith and following the superficial thing. Money always comes fast and goes fast, if we to catch them we must slow down our steps and do each procedure well to be able to let money stay longer. Money that comes from the wrong way disappears faster. Maintain a heart that never let profit and money deceive our eyes.

I think the best way to attracted high-quality graduates without offering the high salaries associated with consulting work is to promote the company’s belief and motto. The fresh high-quality graduates always aims to work in a best company that can let them express their ideas and strengths, they seldom taught to get a lot of profits that come from their works, but maybe they would required a high salaries because they think they are high- quality graduates so they must receive that kind of salaries to fulfill their hard studying in the college lives.

Case 11-6 deals with Lessee Ltd., a company that operates in Britain and uses IFRS. The question in this case is how to classify a lease that Lessee, Ltd. acquired from Lessor Inc. The accounting standard that deals with leases under IFRS is IAS 17. IAS 17 was originally issued in September 1982 and was reissued in December 2003. It classifies leases as either finance leases or operating leases. Finance leases make it so that the lessee recognizes an asset and a liability and the lessor recognizes a receivable, basically transferring all the risks and benefits of ownership. Under operating leases, the lessor still recognizes the asset and the lessee recognizes an expense.…

There are times when good salaries are not enough to motivate and retain good professionals in companies. The factors that motivate the professionals at work are good relationships with people at work, professional recognition and the ability to work with what they like. I believe that before hiring an HR consulting, every manager can pay attention to some points which usually cost very little and can produce great results, related to the motivation of people in a company.…
