challenge I faced in my life
It was a day which is still tickling in my mind when I remember it. I was waiting for the phone call from my family physician. Those moments of waiting were seemed like years. Finally the phone rang and I received that with trembling heart. Then my doctor said that the report was positive which made me so excited and at the same time so proud with a little bit fear. It was the report of my first time conception which is really a challenge for a woman specially in abroad as an immigrant without parents and relatives.
When realized that I am going to be a mother, obviously that feelings made me not only so happy but also worried. Because I was an immigrant in Canada and just after nine months of arriving here I got pregnant. Nine months was not so long to become familiar with everything in a new country. Besides that, I had a job in a store of a food court which was also too hard to maintain after being pregnant. And we, the immigrants living here almost alone. Because most of our close relatives were in back home. All those reasons made my pregnancy a great challenge for me.
Compare to the North American countries it’s easier to maintain everything for a pregnant woman in my country, Bangladesh. Because if I would be in my back home at my pregnancy period, I could get lots of supports from my family like parents and in-laws whenever I need any. Also in Bangladesh we can keep the maid servant because of cheaper labour rate. But here in Canada we have to do everything by ourselves which is very hard for an expecting mother. We have to maintain our jobs and household chores here simultaneously. At the period of my pregnancy my husband was a great support for me.

The being pregnant part was actually really awesome. I was hungry all the time and got to eat pretty much anything and everything to my hearts content. I was always sleepy but best of all never did I get nauseous, which oh my gosh I was so happy for! You get to go to the doctor ALOT and the list of the things you can do is a short story compared to the novel that is the list of things you cant do. The very first feelings you feel of the baby moving feels like you have butterflies in your stomach and getting to hear the heart beat, now that is one of the best sounds in the world. I read What to Expect When You're Expecting like it was the bible. It tells you everything about the baby, their progress, what they look like at each stage and I was obsessed with it. At about five months that's when you get to find out the sex. That was the day I couldn't wait for. I wanted a girl so bad! I tried hard not to get my hopes up. Don't get me wrong I would love my child either way, but ever since that first day, that second line I couldn't stop thinking the word girl, girl, GIRL! I knew it, even though I told myself I didn't. My heart sank at first when the ultra sound nurse said “Do you see these three dots?” I instantly thought “okay cool its a boy, good thing I still have time to pick out a name” but as the nurse went on she said “congratulations your having a girl.” My mom who was with me just exploded into pure excitement, she had her three grandsons now the first granddaughter, and me, well I felt like I won the lottery. Picking out a name was also pretty easy seeing as how I already picked it out when I was 15, Riley, after my grandfather. I never got to meet him but I've always heard what an amazing person he was and I was in love with his name, but I had to make it its own so I decided to spell it Rylee. After that its pretty much 4 long fat months of you putting baby furniture together, buying clothes,…

Everyone in life will have their own personal obstacles they will have to face in life. Some people will mentally shut down and give up when faced with a challenge. Others will take their challenges and use them to better themselves. The obstacles that I have faced in my life have never hit me harder than they have these past few months. This being my senior year, I always expected it to be the most laid back and relaxing year of my high school career. When in fact I set myself up for one of the biggest challenges of my life so far, by signing up for multiple online college classes, helping out with activities all over the school, and playing football for the first time since freshman year. Although, under all this immense pressure, this is where my true colors came out. I didn’t stop working to my full potential,…

My dad comes out and says, your brothers here! I was very excited. I was ready to see him and hold him. They wheeled his mother back in the room and a few minutes later, my baby brother is being wheeled in. Seeing him at that moment I knew that everything was going to change. The only thing that was racing through my mind was one question and that was “Was I going to be a good big sister?” I was so excited to hold him when I finally got him in my arms. Just seeing him, watching him just lay there and smile made me happy knowing that that was someone I could call my little brother. At that moment my whole life changed I knew that I had someone who looked up to me and someone I had to be a role model for.…

I have experienced many obstacles in my life, but there’s that one obstacle that changed my life in a way I didn’t imagine. As a matter of fact I was not aware that such thing would present itself as an obstacle in my life but it did. In 2006 I joined the U.S. Army and was shipped off to Basic Combat Training. Just being there was a challenge on itself. During Basic Training we were taken to The Confidence Obstacle Course. At first I thought it was easy, run over logs, climb short walls, swing on ropes and a few other things that in reality were a lot of fun. And right before the end of the day the Drill Sergeants took us to the last obstacle. A 40 feet high tower with ropes going down to the ground and away from the tower. From the ground level it didn’t look that bad for me, but once I climbed on top and was told by my Drill Sergeant to slide down the rope head first I panicked. Until that day I was not aware of how afraid I was of heights. It took some time for me to gather the confidence I needed to slide down the rope and finally after some encouragement from my Drill Sergeant I did it. My fear of…
