Causes Of The Battle Of Gettysburg

This war started in June, 1863. The cause of this war was because Robert E. Lee’s soldiers crossed the Potomac River in Virginia. They marched to the Susquehanna River. They thought they could stop the South or slow down with a victory in the north. The battle started on July 1 and thats the morning of the firs shot. Confederate troops forced Union troops southeast through Gettysburg. The Union went to Cemetery Hill, Cemetery Ridge and Culp’s Hill which gave them a good position for fighting. On July 2, the fighting was in the southern end of the Union near Little Round Top, Devil’s Den, the Wheatfield and the Peach Orchard. There was 3 days total.
