Case Study Of Madurai Corporation
As per the CPHEEO norms, the water supply schemes are designed for 135 lpcd for Corporations and ULBs having UGSS. Provisions are also made for fire fighting demands as per CPHEEO Manual. Bulk, Industrial and other demands are considerd as per the TWAD Guidelines. The details of water demands considered for Madurai Corporation is as presented in Table IV.1.

4.2 WATER LOSSES IN THE SYSTEM
As per CPHEEO 15% of the losses in the distribution system shall be considered as UFW losses. The same will be considered during demand assessment.
4.3 DEMAND ESTIMATION
The demand assessment as calculated Madurai Corporation for various horizon years has been worked out and presented in Table IV.2.

For smaller size pipes upto diameter 200 mm, HDPE pipes are recommended. HDPE pipes are flexible and can bend to some extent, thus reduces use of specials like bends, elbows etc. This speeds up the construction activity. In addition, it also minimizes leakages as there are less no of joints.which are welded and are least prone to leakages. HDPE pipes have excellent track record of making good house service connections. Hence can reduce the UFW to the maximum extent. They are tough and can handle heavy traffic loads to some extent which also reduce the vulnerability of pipe breakage due to heavy traffic
