Enhancing Efficiency & Productivity in the Organization
Introduction Management is defined as the process of overseeing and coordinating resources efficiently and effectively in line with the goals of the organization. Management in an organization can be defined as undertaking deferent groups of tasks and responsibilities of an organization and manage those tasks and responsibilities efficiently to run the organization smoothly. A successful manager in a hotel industry must exhibit many skills and commands that are related to the operation of the hotel and much specialized knowledge, all directed at achieving a variety of management objectives. To accomplish this, every manager in the hotel industry has to understand and apply the functions and roles of a manager. The main four functions of a manager are to plan, organize, lead and control. Planning is creating visions and mission, the long term and short term goals in respect to the organization. Organizing is to allocate the resources in the most efficient manner. Leading is to communicating and motivating the employees in order to bring the organizations plan to action. Lastly, controlling can be defined as monitoring or overseeing the tasks and the progress against the goals of the organization and implementing corrective measures for the areas that need improvements. (Functions of Management, 2009) Professor Henry Mintzberg carried out a detailed analysis of managers and his observation concluded the important managerial roles. He categorized these roles into interpersonal, informational and decisional. Under interpersonal, the roles are figurehead, leader and liaison. The figurehead role in the Interpersonal category consists of all social, inspiration, legal and ceremonial obligations. This role represents the manager being as a symbol of status and authority. In the next role under interpersonal, the leader role deals with hiring, training, directing, motivating, advising and influencing his subordinates. Liaison being the last role under this category describes the information and communication obligations of a manager.

She must network and engage in information exchange to gain access to knowledge bases within the organization and also beyond the organization. (Mintzberg's Management Roles) Under the informational category the managers perform roles as a monitor, disseminator and spokesperson.
