houses for them to live in. This is illustrated in the novel when Carr states, “[o]n the point at either end of the bay crouched a huddle of houses […] every house stood separate from the next. Winds roared through narrow spaces between” (Carr 34-35). This quotation demonstrates the rapidity of colonization and constructing houses caused by the Missionaries.…

After reading Up Home, I believe it better resonates with the narrative of Canadian identity that was presented in The Loyal Refugees. Specifically, Up Home relates to the experiences of the Black Loyalists who fled to Nova Scotia in 1783. In The Loyal Refugees, it notes that some of the black Loyalists did not receive the promises that they hoped they would get when coming to North America (78). They had expectations of a better life but those were not delivered. This is mentioned in Up Home, as Grant recalls her Nana’s stories about people who worked hard to survive despite the barren lands (2008). The idea of turning to the community for support in places like the church was mentioned in The Loyal Refugees (78). The church was viewed as…
Furthermore, Frank Lloyd Wight function of the Ward Willits House began with an asymmetrical, pin-wheeling plan of the lesser, following of the Ladies’ Home Journal project (Figure 1) (Levine, 31). However, it was standardized to have this conventionalism look, to be more like the Winslow House (Figure 1) (Levine, 31).This house is arranged well back from the street, and therefore outspread into all four directions on a cross-axil plan that is secured around the center of the fire-place (Figure 2) (Levine, 31). The source of three-dimensional vitalities of the house comes from the critical components of family unity and demonstration, and at the same occasion all the movement is focused on the center (Figure 2) (Levine, 31). As all departments…

The first facility I have chose is inpatient in a hospital. About 72 percent of PTA's work in this kind of care. Most of what they do here is acute care. Acute care is physical therapy for short-term patients as a result of illness, recovery from trauma, or surgery. Here, PTAs work with other professionals such as physicians, PAs, nurses, OTs, social workers, and speech and language pathologists. As soon as this patient is medically stable they can be discharged. The PT's and PTA's work with these patients a few times a day until they are safe to return to their home. The other facility I have chose is a nursing home or a skilled nursing facility. Here, PTA's care for long-term patients who are usually elderly. Other health care professionals…
Everyone and everything lived their entire lives on the manor. The community in the industrial age was completely different. People began to move from the country to the cities in search of a better life. Instead they find that thieves, drunkards, and prostitutes roamed the dark streets at night. Streets were especially dangerous at night since street lamps did not exist. Homes were small and the streets were very cramped. The atmosphere was very dark and dreary.…
The protagonist Nell attains an unyielding sense of place in her constructed environment and thus is unable to successfully connect to larger society. To fulfil her desire to belong she surrounds her cottage with barbed wire. The close up shot of the wire illustrates to the audience that extreme actions are undertaken to create an atmosphere in which she can belong. The barbed wire indicates that intruders aren’t allowed to enter her surroundings as they could severely impair her sense of place, thus highlighting that indeed belonging and place are intrinsically linked.…

Round the corner from the by street there was a square of ancient, handsome houses. One house, however second the corner was still occupied entire; and at the door of this, which wore a great air of wealth and comfort. Samantha Wong Professor Jennifer Riske English 2323 15 June 2016 Writing Assignment One: “Lines Composed a Few Miles above Tintern Abbey” In William Wordsworth’s famous poem, “Tintern Abbey”, the poet deemed nature as valuable because he regarded nature as a moral guide, mentor throughout his life, and as well as restorative existence. When Wordsworth was child, he passionately reflected and cherished his time of isolation from the world as he pondered life in Wye River Valley as a youth. He inscribed: “But oft, in lonely rooms, and 'mid the din / Of towns and cities, I have owed to them”...... “His little, nameless, unremembered, acts / Of kindness and of love” (lines 26-26; 34-35). This transcript is an example that nature encouraged…
The two “unusual formations of land” - “enormous eggs” are separated by a “courtesy bay” and this is where the idea of contrast comes to the fore. We understand that this extract is not just a landscape description, but also a comparison of two different worlds. These two formations are identical in shape, but are absolutely different in every other aspect, so the contrast is of a social kind. And the loose compound “courtesy bay” is served to emphasize this contrast. The bay is “courtesy” because it is granted for a free use by courtesy of millionaires living at East Egg. This is a perfect example of Nick Carraway’s irony. Nick uses a kind of understatement when he says that West Egg, the one where he lives, is “the less fashionable of the two”. Thus, grammatical means, comparative degree in this case, as well as lexical means, help him to point to the contrast indirectly.…
here was a time when I could travel England for weeks on end and remain at my sharpest—when, if anything, the travelling gave me an edge. But now that I am older I become disoriented more easily. So it was that on arriving at the village just after dark I failed to find my bearings at all. I could hardly believe I was in the same village in which not so long ago I had lived and come to exercise such influence. There was nothing I recognized, and I found myself walking forever around twisting, badly lit streets hemmed in on both sides by the little stone cottages characteristic of the area. The streets often became so narrow I could make no progress without my bag or my elbow scraping one rough wall or another. I persevered nevertheless, stumbling around in the darkness in the hope of coming upon the village square—where I could at least orient myself—or else of encountering one of the villagers. When after a while I had done neither, a weariness came over me, and I decided my best course was just to choose a cottage at random, knock on the door, and hope it would be opened by someone who remembered me. I stopped by a particularly rickety-looking door, whose upper beam was so low that I could see I would have to crouch right down to enter. A dim light was leaking out around the door's edges, and I could hear voices and laughter. I knocked loudly to insure that the occupants would hear me over their talk. But just then someone behind me said, "Hello." I turned to find a young woman of around twenty, dressed in raggedy jeans and a torn jumper, standing in the darkness a little way away. "You walked straight past me earlier," she said, "even though I called to you." "Did I really? Well, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to be rude."…
