Skilled Nursing Home Analysis
The first facility I have chose is inpatient in a hospital. About 72 percent of PTA's work in this kind of care. Most of what they do here is acute care. Acute care is physical therapy for short-term patients as a result of illness, recovery from trauma, or surgery. Here, PTAs work with other professionals such as physicians, PAs, nurses, OTs, social workers, and speech and language pathologists. As soon as this patient is medically stable they can be discharged. The PT's and PTA's work with these patients a few times a day until they are safe to return to their home. The other facility I have chose is a nursing home or a skilled nursing facility. Here, PTA's care for long-term patients who are usually elderly. Other health care professionals

While being employed in Corporate America for over 20 years and in the United States Air Force for over 10 years has been extremely valuable experience, I don’t feel like I’m fulfilling my purpose in life. After losing my grandmother 2.5 years ago, it finally dawned on me what my purpose is, and that is to care for our aging population. I am one of 65 grandchildren. My grandmother and I always had a special bond. She raised me for a big part of my childhood, and was more of a mother-figure to me.…

Colonial Care Center is a local Long beach Nursing Home Located on the corner of Cherry and 5th street. This facility is around the corner from my house, so I was able to visit the home multiple times to get a better understanding of how the residents are living. If I had to rate the residents daily life from my three visits, I would give this home a 6 out of 10. Some of the residents seem to enjoy their interactions with the staff, while others looked miserable. The attire of the patients was all over the board. Some were dressed in pajamas and others were dressed in pants and shorts as if they were ready to go on a nice walk. The staff appeared to have a good relationship with the residents that were willing to interact with them. They knew…

You trust nursing homes to treat your loved ones with quality care, but what could happen behind closed doors still causes anxiety. In 1986, these fears came to fruition when Congress requested that the Institute of Medicine (IOM) evaluate the quality of nursing homes. They found that a majority of residents were often neglected, abused, and inadequately cared for. To solve these issues, the IOM proposed a series of reforms that were brought into action the following year — known as the Nursing Home Reform Act.…

Assisted Living Facilities (ALFs) is one of the fastest-growing residential settings for older adults in the US. They provide diverse settings and care alternatives to adults. The general population prefers to receive care in an assisted living facility rather than a nursing home by a six to one margin. The increasing preference for assisted living facilities is caused by the different social stigma it has compared to other long-term care facilities (Bowblis, 2012, p. 238). Assisted living residents have a lower level of need and are regulated at the state level, making them more unique across the nation, however that can lead to inconsistent, inferiority care.…

Physical therapy involves treatment through physical means for people disabled by illness, accident, or congenital handicap. It seeks to improve mobility, relieve pain, or minimize permanent physical disabilities (Occupational Outlook Handbook). The physical therapy career field interests me for many reasons. It revolves solely around the human body, which is a fascinating topic to learn about. This area of expertise is flexible and rewarding. There are many specialty areas to choose your career from; some of these include orthopedic, geriatric, neurological, and pediatric. As well as flexible concentrations, physical therapy can have flexible work environments. The work environment and broad range of specializations are major factors in my choice of this career path.…

Under the observation of a Physical Therapist, a Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) works to help patients recover from injuries or disabilities within the body. A few exemplifications of their line of work include balance training, exercise, electrical stimulation, massage, ultrasound therapy, and mechanical traction. However, seeing as they are still just assistants, PTA’s must very thoroughly document and report everything they do and turn in their paper work to their overseeing therapist. Although the position is one of a mere apprentice, they are not required to hold a license, but there are several other qualifications needed.…
