Capital Punishment: Needless Inhumanity
There have been many debates on whether capital punishment should be allowed. However, many people feel that capital punishment is unnecessary as they believe that killing a person is absolutely wrong, even if that person is a serial killer, rapist, or anyone who has committed a serious crime. Some of the reasons why capital punishment is that it is inhumane, wrongful sentencing, and not deterring crime. First of all, capital punishment means, of course, the death sentence. No matter what crime the someone commits, killing should never happen. As the Bible states in Exodus 21:24, “an eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot”. We should never fight fire with fire, and use violence with violence. Many of the methods of capital punishment are terrifying and cruel, such as stoning. As its own name states, stoning involves getting hit by stones until death. Another reason why we shouldn’t allow the death penalty is that there are times when an innocent person is sentenced to death. Take the case of Saint Nicholas for instance. If Saint Nicholas wasn’t at the killing grounds, three innocent people would have been executed cruelly. Other cases of wrongful execution include Sergeant James McNicol, Edith Thompson, and Frederick Bywaters. All of these people would not have died if the judges had not made a mistake in finding these innocents guilty. One of the main reasons why capital punishment exists is to decrease the amount of criminals in society. However, in many countries that allow capital punishment, there are more criminals than in countries where capital punishment is banned. For example, the crime rate in United States is higher than Canada, where capital punishment has never existed. As you can see, capital punishment does not only shed the blood of guilty criminals, but it also takes away the lives of many innocent people. At first look, capital punishment seems like an easy and cheap way to get rid of many

“Everybody believes that capital punishment is wrong, but when they look at certain cases, they are quick to say, “Put them to death”, or “scream capital punishment.”” Jeff Lindsay. Capital punishment is the legally authorized killing of someone as a punishment for a crime. It has been around since time itself. In the 1700’s, The Code of Hammurabi was the first known written document there were twenty-five crimes that were punishable by death such as adultery, and helping slaves escape. Over the years, several studies have demonstrated a link between executions and decreases in murder rates (Haugen). While this is true, people do not realize there are several reasons why the death penalty should be abolished. The three main reasons capital punishment should be abolished is too many innocent inmates are either executed or put on death on row, capital punishment is morally wrong, and it would save the government millions of dollars if capital punishment was not in place.…

Many Americans are against the capital punishment or commonly knows as the death penalty because they fear its too expensive or there are religious reasons to oppose the death penalty or some other reasons. But my point of view is just like the bible and what it says "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth" meaning if you killed some body you ought to be killed also. Capital punishment is a cruel and barbaric way to stop crime. Most kids have heard the expression “do not fight fire with fire.” Using the death penalty is doing just that. Punishing criminals for murder by doing exactly what landed them in jail in the first place seems counterproductive. Instead, making felons live in prison, reflecting on their actions, gives them the opportunity to learn from their mistakes. No one would be able to live with themselves if they were involved with an innocent man being wrongfully executed. Eliminating capital punishment would make that fear…
