Butterfly corp
1. Prioritizing the issues that Butterfly needs to deal with are, that in Puerto Rico suppliers mistreat their workers, retailers in some countries were diluting the products and selling them as full strength, some plant employees were suffering pay cuts while others were not. Employees that have worked at Butterfly for many years were having their hours cut to 36-hour workweeks, losing their full-time benefits. There are also political alliances being formed among marketing, finance, manufacturing, and corporate headquarters. Each plant operates as an independent profit-making entity. Butterfly’s workers tended to be women; children were being left to fend for themselves. In some Latin American countries, husbands were angry because their wives earned more than they did, corporate people at Butterfly are mostly men.
I think implementing an ethics program can address these issues by showing all suppliers, employees, even the corporate heads that this company stands for what is right, and they want to bring the company back to core values and good ethics. I believe for the most part all these issues that Butterfly is suffering are all ethical issues. If everyone in the company, even foreign companies, know that there will be a new ethics committee and that every company will be expected to follow this set of ethical guidelines, will help get this company back on track. Either the companies will follow the new set of ethical guidelines or be penalized, or they may want to close down. Unfortunately, it is more difficult to control foreign companies because our ethics in the United States are completely different.
2. I think that the new ethics committee should have a wide array of people. I think it should have a representative from each continent that has a Butterfly, both men and woman with different areas of expertise. I think the committee’s first steps toward implementing an effective ethics program should be to communicate these new ethical standards.

For any corporation or organization both the situation and culture of the group are critical in evaluating the possibility for unethical behavior. Confidence in both the brand and the integrity of the organization provide additional revenue opportunities and confidence in the service and products. To paraphrase economist Milton Friedman “the only acceptable corporate responsibility is the enhancement of revenues that will allow higher profits back to shareholders, who may then reinvest according to their individual values”. (Arguments from Dead…

In Company Q’s case some business decisions need to be re-analyzed in order to ensure they are meeting their goals, as well as being socially responsible. Company Q is a small locally owned Company that has decided to close down stores in higher-crime-rate areas of the city due to the stores reportedly losing money. Another issue is that it took many years of insisting by the customers to get health-conscience and organic goods in due to worries by the company about high cost margins. They have also turned down opportunities to donate day-old products to the local food banks because they are worried about lost revenues and fraud. The current attituds and decisions seem to be based on the bottom line and profitability of the company rather than the best interests of the community and their customers. If these decisions are not evaluated and changed the company could ultimately lose their business to a more responsive competitor.…

Perhaps it is because of the overwhelming belief among CEOs that ethical beliefs should be passed down from generation to generation and worked into everyday life, but the traces of historical companies and countries can be seen echoed in some of the less than ethical business practices followed by these more modern corporations. Specifically, the ideas of imperialism seems to pervade the ideology of many companies with how they treat the local communities of their operations. The general takeover, economically and politically, of the BCL on Bougainville, almost seems to mirror the philosophy of Colonial Imperialism…

When looking at the ethical issue using the rights and responsibility lens, it is easy to see that this company has a responsibility to inform the public of the potential dangers of the product that was sent out for sale. The relationship lens was not too helpful in my findings. I felt that the company could have made changes without ever having to worry about putting the company’s reputation on the line. The company’s reputation is at stake here. If nothing is done to prevent this product from getting into the wrong hands, the company and its reputation could be tarnished forever. The results lens played a major part in decision making. This requires making a sound decision that would be beneficial not only to all of the potential customers, but also to the employees who may lose their jobs because of the company shutting down after countless…

Generally, the purpose of the ethics committee in health care is to deliberate and rectify complicated and unusual matters involving issues that affect the care, and treatment of patients within the health care institution (Morrison, 2014). Members of the ethics committee should be chosen on the elements of their concern for the welfare of the sick and interest matters, and their reputation in the community and among their peers for integrity and mature judgment. Ideally, the purpose of the ethics committee should be curbed solely to ethical matters. In addition, the ethical committee’s communications and deliberations should comply with institutional and ethical policies for protecting the privacy of patient’s information (Greenwood, 2015)…
