Business and Financial Performance of Tesco Plc
An Evaluation of the Business and Financial Performance Of Tesco Plc
Between 25th Feb2009 and 28th Feb 2011

Also, by analysing the performance of a real company, I had the opportunity to apply my theoretical knowledge, which I learned through ACCA exams, into a practical scenario.
I will be carrying my research and analysis on ‘Tesco plc’,by evaluating its financial and business performance. At the same time I will compare with competitor companies within the industry in which TescoPlc operates. The time span on which my research would be base will be from 2009 to 2011.

Project objectives and overall research approach.

Tesco’s is one of the largest supermarket stores around the world; it has 330,000 staff working in 3,146 stores, there are stores located in China, Turkey and Japan. Research shows that they have stores in 9 other different countries and 27 million people outside of the UK own their own club card to receive offers and discounts from Tesco’s. Financial Analysis is very important to the inner workings of a business. Keep track of financial statements, taxes, audits, and various other areas of financials will show how well a company has done, is doing, and how well it will do in the future. Seeing how well a company is doing into the future is important so they can see any mistakes and try to fix them before they become an issue and hinder the growth of the company. In this essay I will compare financial statements in two companies, PepsiCo. and Coca Cola Company. I will describe what vertical and horizontal analysis is then I will go over the vertical analysis of both companies, comparing one to the other.
