The movie ‘Bully’ is a documentary and the message that it delivers is both troubling as well as moving. It shows us how some kids are constant sources of misery to others whom they consider to be different from the masses. Bullying has become a norm of our society and it is especially common in classrooms, cafeterias, school buses as well as in a principal’s office or in the teacher’s room. (Marriner, 3)
‘Bully’, is not only about the bullies and their victims but it is also about how this form of cruelty is embedded in our society as a whole. It is a wake-up call for schools and their administration not to ignore or downplay bullying but to confront this problem and change the school

The other kid is let of hooks and goes his merry way while Cole is scolded for not co-operating. When Cole tries to explain that he is in fact a victim of mental and verbal abuse, the assistant principal tells him to just let it go as the other kid is sorry and has already apologized. At one point or another every one of us has been bullied or has been just a bystander and watched it happen. Bully not only focuses on the tormented but also on the tormentors and how they became such. Is it because they come from broken families or they just enjoy the pain of others. This documentary is a must see not only for adults but also by the younger generation. It’s a documentary that in my opinion gives us hope that something is being done to stop bullying in schools and society at large. Bully is a wonderful movie with a lot of heart, humanity and soul and it manages to get its message across. (Scott,

Imagine that you are a thirteen year crying in your bed because you are dreading facing another day at school because you are being bullied. Nowadays, this is more common than ever before. For far too many teens this is a daily reality. According to the ASPCC (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children) there are over 160,000 students in America who stay home from school every day because they are fearful of the mental and physical abuse from their classmates (1). The ASPCC defines bullying as a direct attack on a child’s status, sense of belonging and core identity and more times than not leads to low self-esteem (2). 1 out of 4 children are bullied every day (3). Bullying in any shape, form or fashion must be stopped so that our children can have a fighting chance.…

Bullying is the “repeated negative acts committed by one or more children against another” (Siegel & Welsch, 2016). These actions can be direct, either physical or verbal, such as hitting or mocking, or they can be indirect actions such as manipulating friendships. There are mainly two types of bullying depicted in the film – direct and indirect. Bullying begins for Alex as he waits at for the bus. The boys waiting with him threaten that they will break his Adam’s Apple. Then on the bus, his peers yell profanity at him and say they want to cut up his face. Students have nicknamed Alex “Fish Face” because his lip was unable to fully develop since he was born at 26 weeks old. During the school day, Alex keeps to himself as he does not have any…

“Let’s begin by saying that we are living through a very dangerous time. Everyone in this room is in one way or another aware of that. We are in a revolutionary situation, no matter how unpopular that word has become in this country. The society in which we live is desperately menaced, not by Al Qaeda, but from within. To any citizen of this country who figures himself as responsible – and particularly those of you who deal with the minds and hearts of young people – must be prepared to ‘go for broke.’ Or to put it another way, you must understand that in the attempt to correct so many generations of bad faith and cruelty, when it is operating not only in the classroom but in society, you will meet the most fantastic, the most brutal, and the most determined resistance. There is no point in pretending that this won’t happen.”…
