Brussel Sprouts Short Story
Once upon a time in a densely wooded forest in the hills of West Virginia, there lived a brussel sprout named Bruce. As soon as he could speak, he said “Brussel sprouts are people too!” That is what Bruce continued to say and he said it at every single place that he went. While saying it, he spread the message. He said “One day someone will hear us and once they do our species will be saved.” Bruce traveled far and wide to spread his message to all kinds brussel sprouts of all kinds of different farms. While on his vast journey he encountered many brussel sprouts that believed in his message, following, helping, and accompanying him as he went on. He encountered great challenges, some of which he almost died from such as the …show more content…
You must, must, must be very, extremely careful around the peas! They hate us brussel sprouts with all their hearts and will not stop until the chosen one is eliminated so that they can come back and enslave us all!” said the father to his son. “Why do they hate us so?” Bruce responded. The father then said “Well, a long, long time ago the peas and the brussel sprouts were great friends and lived in harmony, until one fateful day we were getting picked by the farmer and a brussel sprout had the chance to save the leader of the peas from being picked, but was too scared to do so. The leader swore revenge on all of us and the rest of the peas followed his nasty plot. So never, ever even go near a pea and do not, under any circumstances tell them that you are the chosen one!” From then on, Bruce was very careful not to be around peas of any sort, for he was almost certain that they would eliminate him if they had the …show more content…
“And for the record, I like you too. We will see each other again one day.” Bruce did as he was told continuing on his journey. He went through processing until he finally ended up on a child’s plate in which he said “Brussel sprouts are people too!” as loud as he could, and to his surprise the little girl heard him and chose not to eat Bruce or any of the other brussel sprouts. Remembering the forgiveness offered to him by Java the Pea, he called out, "Peas are human too." Instead of consuming the peas or brussel spouts she placed them in the front yard, letting them free. Bruce the Brussel Sprout is the reason why children do not eat brussel sprouts or peas. After returning to his home, he was commemorated for being a hero to his people. Santana was there as well to cheer him on. In fact, all the peas had come. Together both the peas and brussel sprouts made his home farm a historic landmark. Sanatana and Bruce finally got together and they lived happily ever after. So every time you are served brussel sprouts or peas, and you turn them away remember Bruce is their liberator! Three cheers for the chosen one, Bruce the Brussel

‘Blackberry Picking’ by Heaney, is a chronological and descriptive poem in which the poet uses a nostalgic tone to recall his childhood world of ‘Blackberry Picking’. The poet begins with a pathetic fallacy “Late August” which directly reflects the attitude portrayed in the poem by creating a happy atmosphere even though it is the end of summer as blackberries ripen in late summers in which children gather and collect enough blackberries to fill a whole bath but cannot eat them all. The action of Blackberry picking illustrates the loss of innocence as one enters the stage of puberty and discovers new feelings which can be portrayed through the quote “Blackberries would ripen” in which the maturity of a youth which its pleasures are experienced by the tasting of the blackberries is highlighted. A semantic field of religion also adds to the concept of loss of innocence, with lexical choices such as “thickened wine” and “summer’s blood” which is a clear reference to Jesus Christ’s flesh and blood in which he sacrificed his life for us as well as the children’s sacrifice on giving up their childhood to a…

In class we learn about invasive species and how they affect the species around them. We can describe humans as invasive species because we are very adaptable and grow quickly. We harm other organisms when we take over their habitat. We are killing off other species and growing. We have not yet learned to live amongst other species, and can only live off of them. This book shows us how much damage we have done to those around us and how the damage can only be completely undone by us simply disappearing forever. Also, in class we learn about biological diversity and why it is important. This book shows us that life would flourish without us, maintaining this biodiversity. We as humans are not helping the cause by killing off thousands of species and taking over their land and food. We are not helping by polluting the environment and making this planet harmful to breathe. We are not helping by contaminating the water with our fertilizer and factory runoff. The World Without Us shows us that there needs to be a change to save the planet and make it a place where everyone can live, not just…

In humans recent history there has been an increased noticeable mistreatment of the world around them. Humans need to know we are not the only ones living there, there are plants and animals and future offspring for all. Not only does the earth need to be treated well for them but it also needs to be treated well for us, because we rely on them for a healthy life. Many people may say that there is a connection between nature and humans theses thoughts are expressed in Annie Dillard's short story, “Living Like Weasels”. Both authors have their point of view on topics but both agree that human behavior needs to improve for a bigger better future.…

The garden is an important aspect of their lives, where the poet’s parents “watered plants - grew potatoes... like adopted children”, stressing their strong connection to their home. To Peter, a child himself, the garden is a source of nourishment, and he ravages it “like a hungry bird”, eating from its fruit until he is “bursting at the seams”; a colloquial term that reinforces the sense of change and assimilation.…
